YANBU Little Ted is mine. She (dd7) has a roomful of toys.
Stand back from the teddy bear!

CottonTailRabbit · 02/12/2018 19:19

Children understand when you explain that was your special teddy. They rather like it. Especially if you play up your teddy being friends with their teddies. At least that's what happened with DH's childhood manky much loved stuffed creature.

Saaaame My mums just given me my toy lamb from when I was little as I'm close to giving birth to my first son. She meant it for me to give to him and I'm having a hard time choosing between my feelings of "that's really sentimental and lovely for him" and "but that's my lamby!" Grin

KipperTheFrog · 02/12/2018 19:28

My children are not allowed my childhood favourite bear. Or their dad's.
I think it's important for them to learn that some things just cannot be taken. They each have a comforter and that is the 1 toy they are not expected to share, ever.

Hunkyd0ry · 02/12/2018 19:31

Totally get this. My DD “shares” my bear. (But it’s still mine)

IHeartMarmiteToast · 02/12/2018 19:32

Poor bear... if you really loved him you'd already have him at home with you. Wicked lady.... I still have my bear George in bed with me!!! 😂🤣😂🤣

YANBU! No lighthearted needed, no one gives away my teddyAngry

LucieMorningstar · 02/12/2018 19:39

My mum threw away all my toys from my childhood. The only one I have left is a china doll which my daughter (4) has eyes up but it’s mine lol!!

Similar to @CottonTailRabbit, my husband gave her his manky sweet elephant thing which sits on her wardrobe.

Nameynamechangeforthis · 02/12/2018 19:43

On the other hand, I have passed my special bear on to my DS and love seeing them cuddled up together. Two of my deareast things together and much better than my bear being in a cupboard! Any hint that he's not being sufficiently loved however...

silkpyjamasallday · 02/12/2018 19:45

DP loves that DD has taken a shine to his old favourite toy, I am not nice enough to share mine, because well it's mine! I understand OP.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 02/12/2018 19:47

I'm like Joey from friends with Hugsy the penguin lol
