To be sick of celebrities feeling “humbled”

Never a day goes by recently without some celebrity saying how “humbled” they are. Whether they have won Masterchef, an award, anyone said anything nice about them they are “humbled.”

Shirley Ballas has said tonight on Strictly that she is humbled by Lauren closing her feet after she advised her to.

These are not humbling experiences - why do they all keep saying it?

YANBU. It's a phrase that is becoming devalued from overuse.

And they don't mean "humble", they mean "proud" Hmm

Exactly, Tinsel, “proud” or “flattered.”

If someone turned up on Strictly and was a thousand times better at dancing than Shirley is, that would be a humbling experience!

I know, it’s like calling people “ Heroes “ for no good reason, can’t stand it. A hero to me is someone who puts their life on the line for someone else, or for a cause, not a bloody football player scoring a goal and getting paid silly money for it!

I sort of think by the very definition of the word, you can't describe yourself as humble. The worst is when FB people are 'humbled by all the wonderful birthday messages'. Which shrieks I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY OF YOU LOVE ME! Not humble then...

I'm just sick of celebrities full stop at the moment: Millionaire celebrities telling us on TV about how to save money. Millionaire celebrities 'learning' to dance. Millionaire celebrities sitting in the jungle for 3 weeks. Millionaire chat show hosts interviewing and sucking up to millionaire celebrities. And they all just think they're so great!

Definitely this!!

The most useless people are labelled 'heroes' and those truly deserving of the title are often overlooked.
