Put new carpet down less than a year ago . Two kids and a cat have ruined it already.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative?

We have laminate all through, it's fine in bedrooms with a bedside rug.

I put a vinyl with metal checker plate effect in my son's bedroom. It is space themed vhas two round shaggy rugs in grey and orange to represent sun and moon, looks cool and I'd easy to clean

My whole house has laminate. I love it! Well... I'd prefer real wood, but can't afford that. I hate carpets.

EdHelpPls · 29/11/2018 21:08

My aunt has this. Really easy to clean, but a little cold ( though her floors were concrete underneath- wooden floors may feel warmer) though nothing a pair of slippers or slipper socks couldn’t fix!

We only have carpets on the stairs in our house
We’ve never had them downstairs and we took the one out Of DD’s bedroom to try and help her asthma. Then DS decided he wanted the same as his sister and then we replaced the one in our room and the spare room too. We have laminate in our room and vinyl sheet in the kids rooms and bathrooms.
We are in the process of replacing the lot with wood effect vinyl planks
Also ( and I always say this on these threads) it’s highly unlikely anyone has Lino in their house, it will be vinyl in most cases. People use the word Lino like they would use “hoover” for a vacuum cleaner but it’s a very specific product, difficult to fit and maintain and so not really suitable for domestic use.

I only have carpet on my stairs and love how easy the floors are to clean

Please avoid being like my stompy neighbour with her laminate. She spends most of the evening and from 6.30 am in her bedroom and it sounds like she puts her special stompy boots on especially for the occasion.

Think I’ll buy her some slippers for Christmas

I must be old fashioned. I love carpet in the bedrooms, landing and living room. Tiles in the kitchen/conservatory and bathroom and whatever works best in the hall. Real wood would be ok as long as it's mostly covered with big rugs. I like to walk around bare footed and hate the echoey / cold feel of an uncarpeted house. Each to their own though I guess.

SnowyPaws5 · 29/11/2018 22:04

I have laminate and real wood floor everywhere, and tiles in bathroom and kitchen. It's so much more durable than carpet.

BiscuitDrama · 29/11/2018 22:06

Are you sure the carpet isn’t salvageable? What have they done to it?

Notthecarwashagain · 29/11/2018 22:09

I have vinyl in my bedroom.
It's surprisingly warm and quiet! I love it.
