HI,

I've got a last mintue date tonight (dinner). But have suffereed a mjor beauty faux pas- got my eyerows threaded and have broken out like crazy. It happens every now and then but I took the risk and I was look a little furry. I know they will be much better by tomorrow (thank you aloe vera), so I will suggest a swap.

I really don't want to say I'm sick- what can I say??

He just texted- need to reply ASAP

Just say you'd prefer tomorrow

Nicknacky · 29/11/2018 12:38

Don’t cancel!

Don't cancel

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 12:40

Just go and say oh I had my eyebrow waxed for you haha
Make a joke out of it

leema · 29/11/2018 12:41

There is no way I'm going. I'm overly concerned with my looks, unfortunately (separate thread).

I would just be honest as you do still want to go on the date and anything else will sound like a brush off. It could end up being a running joke if you end up together and even get mentioned during the wedding speeches (I’m getting a little carried away...!)

pasturesgreen · 29/11/2018 12:42

Would he even notice? Most of the time these things seem huuuge to the individual concerned, but in fact aren't so noticeable to anyone else.

I'd brave it, quite honestly. Cancelling so last minute is a bit shitty, and if I were him I wouldn't be in a hurry to reschedule.

Pulled the trigger and went with a migraine. I'm always suspicious when that's the excuse people give- but we'll see.

Vanity is far less attractive than a few spots.

whatsthepointthen · 29/11/2018 13:04

i would have cancelled aswell, no one wants to go on a date when they arent feeling good!

Neverknowingly · 29/11/2018 13:07

People using migraines as an excuse are why we have threads like the recent one about someone not believing that their friend always had a migraine.

You didn't owe a reason. An "I'm sorry I can't tonight" at least for now, would have sufficed. The important thing when declining a date is to demonstrate that you are still keen (if indeed you are) by immediately offering an alternative.

leema · 29/11/2018 13:11

I wish i wasn't so concerned with my appearance, I just am. Though I don't think it's uncommon among people in their 20s.

It's my first date since my univesity boyfriend left me for someone else so I need as much confidence as possible.

I agree. I wouldn't want a date with someone who was constantly worrying about how they look.

rumidumi · 29/11/2018 13:23

I'm sorry that you feel that way op. It is completely normal. People who are super confident in themselves won't fully understand. I get it though. I have eczema and if my face flares up I don't want to be going on a date!
I hope he replies and you are able to go tomorrow

dontalltalkatonce · 29/11/2018 13:39

I wouldn't make up a lie.
