AIBU to not know how to style myself?

I have bought a lovely dress for a Christmas party but I don’t know what jewellery or hair style would go. I haven’t been out for so long. I don’t want to ruin the dress with the wrong accessories or hair style. Please help me. I am size 14, brown hair just below shoulder length, age 40, blue eyes.
Should I have hair up or down? Tights or no tights. Choker necklace or long necklace. I have attached pictures of the dress.

Nice dress!
I would go with a long sparkly necklace, hair however it best suits you, if you prefer up then up is more formal but it can still look nice down if you put some waves through it. Maybe a nice shawl to go with it

Very nice dress! I personally would go for hair up ( bee hive vibe) and no necklace. Leaving neck line clear. Drop earrings and a sparkly bracelet. I'm thinking 1950's sort of glamour as dress neckline similar!

FannyFanackerpants71 · 27/11/2018 08:36

Oh, and good strong eye make up and a vibrant lip colour!

SinglePringle · 27/11/2018 08:44

Simple hold necklace with a single drop (maybe a coloured stone but small) that stops just above your cleavage.

Gold stilettos. Hair in a styled, low, over the shoulder pony. I really dislike beehives / 50’s look so would ramp up the 80’s feel of the dress.

I do have a tendency to go for the ‘shorter, tighter, higher’ look though. I have I reign in my inner tart!

Ooh 1950s sounds good. Hadn’t thought of that, I’ll have to have a google and see what I can do with my hair x

Where did you get the dress? I really want one!

startingtolooklikemother · 27/11/2018 09:11

Also want to know where dress is from as its lovely Grin

Something like this. Note also bare neckline. Higher hair and bare neck makes neck look longer thinner more swan like etc . Less is more I find.

Like that dress 👌🏻

Perfectpeony · 27/11/2018 09:33

I agree with Fannyfanacker!

formerbabe · 27/11/2018 09:37

Love that dress!

I'd have my hair down...gold earrings, no tights, black and gold clutch, black patent stilettos...gold necklace (not too long but not a choker either).

Thank you so much, some lovely ideas. I got my dress from eBay and I had it at a bargain £15. Not branded although I shall tell people it’s by Flouncy la Froix 😬
I’m intrigued as to what Gwynne0 posted.

The deleted message was one of those annoying spam “I make £3000 a week, here’s how...”

Hope you enjoy your party OP.

Ahhh right, thought she was slagging off my dress then, how very dare she! Grin

GORGEOUS dress. I agree with bare neck, hair up. If hair down maybe minimal jewellery and red lipstick?

user1473878824 · 27/11/2018 21:34

Also LOVE the idea of gold heels

MaggieAndHopey · 27/11/2018 21:40

i like singlepringle's idea best so far, not that it's up to me.
