The basic story is, my cousin gave up his job and flat to go travelling for a year.
When he returned he stayed at my house for 4 months til he found a job/flat.
When he was with me he bought a car and registered/insured it at my address.
He moved out in March but I’ve still been getting mail for him.
In July I absent mindedly opened a letter that was his and it was a speeding ticket. I called him and told him and asked why it was coming to me, and he replied that he’s kept his car at my address as the insurance is over £5000 cheaper here (rural village) than at his new house (in London) and he couldn’t afford it.
I told him to change it ASAP to which he said he would.
Today I’ve received a letter for him (didn’t open it) and on the envelope it’s printed that it’s from a parking company who I googled and they’re a private parking management firm, so I’m presuming it’s a fine.
I tried calling cousin but he didn’t answer so I messaged him telling him he had a parking ticket and that I was angry he still had his details at my address. He replied ‘lol soz I’ll pay it don’t worry’ but in further messages he has refused to take his car and insurance out of my address cos he don’t want to pay more money.
I’m fuming. How can I get his stuff out of my address? I don’t drive so have no clue about any of this or who I have to contact. I’m tempted to report him to the police but I’m worried I’ll get into trouble as it’s my house and I knew back in July he was using my house, but I genuinely thought he’d changed it as I’ve had no mail here for him since. I’ve never been in trouble before. I’m a single mum of 3 under 6 and I’m scared of getting in trouble for something I didn’t do.
Please help. What do I do? Who can I contact?
