I’m currently enduring my first period since having my baby and stopping breastfeeding and it’s horrendous!

Please tell me you’ve experienced this and they’ll get better with time? I can’t deal with this every month!

My periods since having my daughter haven't been the same at all, she's 14 months now and they're still all over the place! Sometimes I don't have one at all, and other times I'm bleeding super heavily and my moods are all over the place. I'm thinking about going on a long term contraceptive like the depo, I'm not planning on having another child any time soon and I can't cope with these periods!
From what I've been told it isn't unusual for your periods to change after pregnancy, for better or for worse! Hope you're okay x

my first one was awful. back on the pill now though so they're back to normal

Ugh, little girl is 19mo, still breastfeeding around 3 times in 24hrs, my period came back at about 10 months and it's hideous. Heavy enough to flood an ultra tampon in less than an hour for the first 48 hours, then just heavy for the next 3 days. I think it took about 2 years for them to calm down after my son - post pregnancy periods are rubbish.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 25/11/2018 23:25

I’m 7 weeks pp and have had my period. It’s been pretty heavy and quite painful. I’m going to take the mini pill which means I won’t have periods from here on in

PickAChew · 25/11/2018 23:26

Yes, most women who have had babies eventually have a period. Many will find it crap.

Asking for stories sounds a bit bossy, though.

Jezzifishie · 25/11/2018 23:29

She's just asking for reassurance, Pickachew, not sure that comment was necessary!

laurG · 25/11/2018 23:38

Just had my first one at 4 months pp. it was not painful at all (before I had very painful periods). HOWEVER, my mood has been crazy. All over the place. It felt like I had Baby blues again. I cried for the first two days. Ended up at the doctor worried I had developed pnd. Thinks it’s just hormonal but need to go back in 3 weeks...

tor8181 · 25/11/2018 23:42

your going to hate me but ive never actually had a period ever.

im 37 and have severe PCOS, even though i developed physically early(dd cup at 12,hairs at 10) i never ever started my periods

was told at 17 i had severe PCOS and would need ivf in the future but i caught naturally at 23 and 2nd one at 30 took 4 years of fertility tablets

all ive ever had is the blood loss after your had a baby

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 25/11/2018 23:43

They have got worse each time and I'm 3 years post birth. I had c section which I reckon has made things worse

Snappedandfarted1 · 25/11/2018 23:45

The 2 periods I had post baby were awful. They’ve always been heavy and crap but I had terrible mood swings aswell. I went back on the pill for a few months but still found them to be worse than before, so GP fitted a Mirena coil. It’s been absolutely life changing. I had it fitted 9 months ago and my periods are pretty much non existent now. I know a lot of women may not be comfortable with no periods at all, but I love it and it’s made my life so much easier.

Lindtnotlint · 25/11/2018 23:48

Mine are grim. Weird pain I never had pre-kids that makes it difficult to stand up for any meaningful amount of time. Must get round to getting the Mirena fitted...

Noodledoodledoo · 25/11/2018 23:56

Had mini pill pre pregnancy, no periods.

With both babies, periods came back at 6 weeks even though BF both till 13 months! So lucky there.

Were ok whilst feeding, hormones horrendous.

Tried mini pill whilst still feeding youngest, (didn't go back on after first), sent hormones into overdrive, lots of tears and very down. Tried again and insisted on my previous brand, hormones better, but period is every month unlike before but I am 40+ so apparently normal!

Fairly light, and ok to manage, but a bit crampy.

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 26/11/2018 07:44

Thanks everyone, it sounds like what I’m experiencing is quite normal then, and potentially won’t ease unless I go on the pill.

I’m on day 5 of going through the super plus tampon and a pad every hour and half, even having to change a couple of times through the night!
