Hair fricken disaster!!

Went to the hairdressers yesterday to have balayage having always been a dark haired brunette and they left me with blonde fricken hair. Went home and was in an absolute panic over it so dyed it with the only box dye I had at home which was mahogny but I hate it. Can I dye it again tomorrow? Want it brown, so will a dark brown sort it? Don't know what to do and am on the verge of tears about it... Also don't want to go back to the hairdressers in case they make it even worse

Why on earth didn’t you ask them to fix it? Or notice when they dyed all of your hair? You can’t really ask them to do it now you’ve done the box dye.

ragingchocoholic · 25/11/2018 20:47

I did and they told me I'd have to go back next week for them to put a darker toner on but I have work and can't do that and dd needed me.

Do not touch box dye again! You need to get a professional. Box dye doesn't dye over processed hair normally. You risk going a really brassy orange, as well as extremely damaged hair.

Now that you have box dyed it, you can't ask them to fix it. You are going to have to shell out quite a lot to get it stripped then expertly dyed back dark brown. This is definitely a professional's job.

Why be in an absolute panic over hair unless it’s been shaved off or turned pink?

You have probably made more work and expense for yourself by trying to fix it.

JoyceDivision · 25/11/2018 20:56

Chop the balayage'd bottom part off as a restyle and go from there?

ragingchocoholic · 25/11/2018 21:07

@zoewashburne is there not anything I can do at home to fix it?

I've box dyed it last 3 years and never had any problems with the colour

@Joycedivision can't do that as its from just below my roots and hair is shoulder length. Would dying it black help?

But then you’ll just have black hair! OP I do feel bad for you but you really should have waited and let them fix it

ZoeWashburne · 25/11/2018 21:24

Unless you want to dye it goth black, just leave it. I am sure that it is a shock to you, but just relax.

Your hair is probably light brown- not exactly green with spots. Please just leave it and go to a professional. My friend is a colourist and she has soooooo many horror stories of people in similar situations to yours. Including one woman who panicked and box dyed several times before she went in. Her hair was so damaged they had to basically give her a pixie cut to salvage it just breaking off.

Just tie it up in a bun until you can go back to the salon.

ragingchocoholic · 25/11/2018 21:30

@zoewashburne do I just book a full permanent colour? Do I need a toner as well? Thanks

This is literally was my 1st time going to a hairdressers and I think it's scared me off for good

The dark colour will fade. Condition your hair well and it'll be fine. DIY at home box colours are fine if you choose the right colour and read the instructions. Many more people colour their hair at home than go to the hairdressers to have it coloured.
If you can't deal with it go into a salon and ask what they can do about it. Don't book an appointment to have anything done until you've spoken to a colourist

ZoeWashburne · 25/11/2018 21:55

When you book, explain that you need a colour correction on balayage and box die. They will have to strip out the box dye and re-dye your hair.

I understand that this is your first time to the salon, but what did you say when you went in? Did you bring photos? If I'm honest, balayage is all about lightening/highlighting your hair, so I am not really sure you are surprised that your hair was lightened. I've attached a photo of what balayage is on dark hair. What did you think you were getting?

Next time you go to a salon take photos of what you want it to look like after.
