I know I’m being stupid but I can’t help it!

I had my eyes tested last weekend as my sight has got so bad! I was prescribed glasses and I got them last night. I have been so worried about getting them and having to wear them.

I work with a bunch of boys all in their 20s - I am the only female on site.

I was quite nervous wearing them to work as I was worried about the comments I would receive as the place is always full of banter and taking the piss out of each other. Secretly I am quite self conscious and am very good at taking it even if it does hurt me (I put on a good front).

I wore them driving to work and took them off to walk into my desk as I didn’t want to walk past everyone wearing them. A few people made nice comments a couple said nothing, but one guy was like why are you wearing glasses and I answered “just for the craic” - our usual bantering ways - then he said “they are the most ugliest pair of glasses I have ever seen”, he was deadly serious when he said this & the lunchroom was full so of course everyone looks at me! I had no comeback for him so I sat to the end of my break with my head down looking at my phone trying not to cry. I went back to my desk and took them off and have put them in my bag. I am so hurt by this and I don’t want to wear them ever again in work. Sorry for the long rant I just wanted to share. I was texting my DP afterwards and he thinks I’m being ridiculous!

Are you sure he was being serious? If he thought they were "joke" glasses not real ones might he have over exaggerated thinking he was being funny?

Changedmyname89 · 23/11/2018 15:08

Well I don’t know for sure if he was being serious as the way I answered him was complete sarcasm. The whole thing was just embarrassing for me as there was a room full of people who looked at me. It’s made me paranoid. They don’t look like joke glasses!

My response would have been "so's your face, at least I can take the glasses off!". I understand because I'd have been equally put off wearing them after a comment like that, but I bet they look fab.

In the nicest possible way OP you're being over sensitive. It was either a crappy comment from someone who, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't have any great importance in your life, or a crappy joke which you've taken to heart. Either way it definitely shouldn't be stopping you wearing glasses which help you see better.

Dwayne that is usually something I would come out with but I was that shocked at what he said I was like WTF!

Hiding - I know I am being completely over sensitive that’s just the way I am - I’m also a major over thinker which doesn’t help matters!!

Thank you for both being so nice, I’ll get used to them more over the weekend and put my big girl pants on for work on Monday!!
