British Gas requesting tenancy agreement

Quick for traffic, would you be annoyed at your tenancy agreement being shared with private companies?

I normally as a landlord inform utilities of new tenant names/ meter readings etc. Tenants normally do too, but just in case it’s forgotten I inform them both of leaving/ moving in. Mainly as years ago I was charged for previous tenants bills and it potentially saves someone hassle.

Never had an issue before, but this time British Gas have emailed back asking for a copy of the tenancy agreement to change details.

I’ve asked the tenant to contact them themselves, but this sits uneasily with me. I’d be informing a private company of their rent amount, size of property, other people on contract etc. I’d presume this to be valuable info to sell on, and I’m being asked with no assurance to how they will store or share another persons data. Could I be in trouble under GDPR if I did share documents with a private company? It feels different to council tax and it’s a private company I’d be sharing data with. The agreement would give a way a lot about financial status in particular, as well as also containing the name and address of a witness who signed it as well to complicate it.

(My reply was just to send me a copy of their policies. The bills are not currently in my name, just under ‘the occupier’)

Redact the information you don't want to share and state you have done so. They are just trying to prevent fraudulent or malicious activity.
