Buy a new washing machine??

I noticed my clothes had an awful damp smell after they dried. I took them out straight away after the washing machine stopped so it's not that I left them in their for days...I can't understand why they smell damp??! I used surf capsules as detergent.
Do I need a new washing machine?

No you need to clean out your existing one, do a hot wash and switch to powder

@dementedpixie thank you for replying. Sorry for sounding like an idiot!! Do you mean just put empty machine with powder on hot wash?

No need to switch to powder. Powder hates my clothes and my machine it's awful stuff. U can stick with capsules but you do need to clean your machine 90 degree wash with a washing machine cleaner through it. Also check the filter in case something is caught in it I.e a soaking wet smelly baby's sock which happened to me once.

Check the filter, take out the drawer and wash it and clean the bit it fits into. Clean round the rubber seal and door and run an empty hot wash

White vinegar and hot wash. Clean the drawer and filter.

I found liquid/ capsules make the drum slimey and caused marks on my clothes. Powders contain bleaches and keep the drum cleaner

It needs cleaning. I do mine every week but it’s used a lot. Clean the filter, the door seals and the drawer then run a 90 wash with a cupful of soda crystals or a bit of bleach in. Then a short cycle to rinse

90 degree ash with bicarbonate of soda - worked for mine when it did the same.
