Any tattoo artists around?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for ages. I get an idea of something then it passes. I've seen an artists work and I just love everything she does, times passed and I like it even more. However she lives in Australia and I'm not going there anytime soon. I know if I ask another artist to imitate her work it's a big no no? Would contacting that artist directly and asking her to design something which I'd obviously pay for, for another artist to tattoo ok? I'm not familiar with the world of tattooing and would hate to offend.

No do not do this, it's massively frowned upon!

I'm not an artist but have several tattoos and am friends with an artist. YANBU to ask the Australian artist to do a design for you, but obviously she would either be comfortable with it or say that she only does designs for works that she will be tattooing herself.

On the second point its a bit of a coin toss, artists will do work based from drawings people bring in and some only like to do pieces that they can alter etc and have personally drawn. ( most good places are the former)
I suggest you check out some local places to you and find one that you like their work and just go in for a chat and ask if they would work off a drawing done by someone else, most will be happy to talk through what you want and accommodate you.

Sorry but it's really crass to ask her to design something for someone else to tattoo. I doubt she'd do it anyway.

Can you link to her instagram page or whatever? Someone might know someone here with a similar style.

Some tattooist design and sell ‘flash’ - work that is available for anyone to buy and have tattooed, so its worth asking if she does this.

The only problem then is finding a good enough local artist who can do justice to the flash work.

Is the Australian tattooist T.S, from Melbourne? If so, she doesn’t do flash or sell her designs.

What type of work does she do? There is likely to be an artist with a similar style near to you.

I adored my old tattooist but he moved to America. I found a new artist whose work was very similar and have had a few by him now.

Determine what style she works in and Google for example 'watercolour tattoo artists insert your location ' you can then look at others portfolios and see if you can find anyone similar.

But don't ask an artist to copy someone else's work. Highly frowned upon.

It's unlikely they're completely unique. There's a good chance there's someone with a similar style closer to home. Are they on Instagram? Artists often hashtag their style so you could look for similar.

If you look at the FAQs on her webpage that you have linked, it says she won’t draw a design for another artist to tattoo.

So her work is a cross of traditional and dot work by the looks of it. Where in the country are you OP? If in the south west I can recommend a few who do similar work.

I'm in the northwest of England, wouldn't mind travelling. Just love all her stuff, normally I see something and it passes but I still love it every time I see it
