How can I surprise/congratulate my sister?

HI,

My very sweet, unassuming sister just got an AMAZING promotion at work (involved several rounds of tough interviews). I really want to make her evening special but I'm just rubbish with this sort of thing. My plan is to order from the local Indian, have champagne ready and possibly buy a cake?

P.S she's 25.

What would you do in your houeshold?

We've had a tough year (death, illnesses etc) and really want to spoil her/bask in the moment

How about booking her a massage to relax after what sounds like a tough process?

MrsStrowman · 16/11/2018 14:30

That sounds like a lovely idea!

JaiNotJay · 16/11/2018 14:31

I think what you have got planned sounds lovely and she'll probably be delighted with that. Smile

flowers? balloon? new work bag?

Blanchedupetitpois · 16/11/2018 14:33

Your plan sounds lovely! She will be so chuffed.

Love the massage idea. Thank you.

I'm also sprucing the house up so it's nice and cosy for us all.

What a lovely sister! I agree, a new work bag would be a nice present, if you know exactly what she will need. If not, just the effort you are making sounds lovely.

Yes to the champagne, always a treat! Takeaway sounds fab too.

I would probably get flowers and a card rather than cake. Definitely get a card - I would keep that if it was me.

Or would you have the budget to get a small keepsake gift? My lovely mum bought me a beautiful little silver pendant when I got promoted once and I love wearing it, gives me a real “I am good at my job, I’ve got this” confidence boost. Another time (when I started the first job I had proper business cards for) she got me a little leather business card holder. Again, using it makes me feel happy.

All sounds excellent though - well done to your sister and I am sure she will hugely appreciate having a lovely thoughtful sibling like you. Flowers for you both.

Write a card and tell her how proud you are of her.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've tried buying her a work bag before (when she got her first "proper" job) but she's quite specific with what she likes for her commute into London.

Will definitely look at buying her keepsake gift over the weekend with my parents.

She will be telling my parents the good news over dinner and I just can't wait!
