Passport photo dilemma

I know in the grand scheme of things that isn’t a real dilemma but it’s been bugging me for days.

I have to renew my passport soon and due to medical treatment am still bald. I wear a wig everyday. Do I wear the wig for the photo as that’s how I will look when travelling or do I go bald. There’s nothing clear I can find guidelines wise.

I want to wear the wig partly because that’s how I always look, partly due to vanity and also because I don’t want to spend the next ten years thinking everytime I have to use my passport about how Ill I was.

Aibu to wear the wig?

The current official advice is:
In your photo, you must:

  • not have a head covering (unless it’s for religious or medical reasons)

So you are probably covered by "medical reasons".

This site has a useful trail of messages ending in actual advice from the passport office:

Sounds to me that you are OK with the wig.

Hope that helps.

If the wig just looks like normal hair then take the photo wearing it. No one will know or care.

I'd wear the wig. People change hairstyles radically over the years anyway, so even when your hair grows back and is different or you get a different wig, I doubt it'll matter. No different to someone changing their hairstyle.
