To think this was my mums fault?

At the beginning of August she was signed off work sick.

4 weeks ago she was offered another job. They set her start date for when her sick note ran out and she handed her notice in at the old work to finish on the Friday before the sick note ran out (so she could go back to work at the new place on the Tuesday IYSWIM). All fine.

She’s been having her induction at the new place which is paid during her time off sick. She was caught by the old work place and are making her pay back her sick pay to them as she was “well enough for work” in their eyes if she’s been having inductions at the new work place which are paid.

She’s now crying and shouting about how she’s got no money as she was only getting 50% pay on the sick pay and the induction was “helping her out a bit”. So she’s only got the inductions pay from the new job which was only a week long.

I have absolutely no sympathy for her. She should of checked with her old work place whether she could do any kind of work while off sick. She’s blaming the new work place for not telling her she couldn’t have her induction during her time off sick, she says they only do the inductions once every 6 weeks so she’d have had to go back to the old place for a few weeks which was causing her issues with illness.

AIBU to think it’s not her new workplaces fault? And she’s lucky to not be in a hell of a lot more trouble from the old work place?

She's taking the piss doing paid work elsewhere whilst claiming sick pay from current employer. She should be very relieved she's not in more serious trouble!
