So work agreed I could go to a conference (first time ever!) requiring 2 nights away. I have a specialist role and all my learning so far has been self funded and I do a split contract, so whilst they get my expertise full time, I am only paid in my specialist role for a few hours.

I am passionate about what I do and was so excited to go.

I just checked the hotel booking. Turns out they have booked 1 room, for me and my supervisor. My supervisor is nice, but very much a supervisor and I can’t believe anyone would think sharing is appropriate.

I got a message to say hotel booked a few months ago, I didn’t check the receipt until today - no one had mentioned it’s a room share. Was I stupid to assume i’d Have some private time??

AIBU?

I'm split tbh. I'm a senior ED nurse and we have to pay for conferences and training ourselves, plus our own accomodation. I'm renewing my advanced trauma training next week and have had to pay for it myself so am sharing a room with my junior colleague. But, we are friendly outside of work and this was our choice. So... whilst it's not a race to the bottom and I agree accommodation should be funded and ideally in a private room, I'm not surprised this is the case in your situation.

Room share is NOT OK if work are paying. Especially without prior agreement. Book a 2nd room and claim it back.

Thank you both. The rooms are £10 more than the allotted nightly budget, so rather than breach the budget by £20, or even discuss it, they have booked one room and sent us individual emails. I don’t think my supervisor has noticed yet. I’m not a girls all in together kind of person. I don’t even like a communal changing room if I can avoid it!
