Nice gesture but all that plastic being released into the sky is not a good thing!

It would be much better to plant trees or have some other suitably fitting memorial. Balloon releases are a bad idea.

twelv · 13/11/2018 18:18

Love the planting trees idea

If you do a balloon release you're an ignorant arse as far I'm concerned. I'm all for hopes and wishes but your balloon lands somewhere. They dont vanish.

Cranky17 · 13/11/2018 18:19

Really think there are better events/companies to moan about plastic about rather than a horrendous event where people where murdered.

How about starting with McDonalds happy meal toys

FekkoThePenguin · 13/11/2018 18:20

My God 2 years. I remember reading about it first on here before it was on the news (as usual with mumsnet).

Has the creature been tried yet?

twelv · 13/11/2018 18:20

Agreed that there are worse offenders but this is silly. And I don't even think it's a respectful way to mark the event. It's actually quite childish

Not sure re the trying. I hope so..

I can't imagine how I'd feel of I was a relative though.

Glad it's not birds being released. A lot of them die as a result.

fuckingwankingshittycomputer · 13/11/2018 18:24

I think people find it therapeutic releasing a balloon in memory but I don't know why nobody doesn't invent an environmentally friendly type of balloon for it

Trees would have been nice

Anasnake · 13/11/2018 18:24

Article is a year old, it's been 3 years. Agree about balloon releases though, hate them and Chinese lanterns.

FekkoThePenguin · 13/11/2018 18:24

3 years? Where does the time go?

twelv · 13/11/2018 18:25

Gosh yes it's a year old.. I literally just heard about it on ITV news. Sorry.. out of date

I was only thinking today that I hadn’t managed to upset anyone for a while on a balloon release thread. I was hoping that was because they had become a thing of the past.

Clearly not though. There are still thoughtless people who think it’s a good idea.
