To buy my DD a PJ Masks Advent Calendar?

ExH says I shouldn’t because it’s for boys. He’s saying she should have one of the “girls” ones (aka Peppa Pig or Frozen).

Calendar is for my house but will likely end up at ExHs as it does every year as she spends EOW there and likes to take things between homes and he never buys her anything like that as he says that’s what maintenance is for. He may throw it away, but I want to get it her anyway. He doesn’t like that she likes things that are traditionally for “boys” as he wanted a girly girl.

She’s 3. Loves PJ Masks, but also loves dolls, pink, and insists she wears skirts and dresses for Nursery even though trousers are part of the uniform if she wants to wear them. But PJ Masks is her favourite TV show. It’s the Aldi one for anyone who’s seen it; it’s basically a blue background with the characters on the front. I think she likes it because she likes cats and one of the characters becomes the hero “Catboy” although I don’t care as it makes her happy.

So AIBU to buy her the advent calendar she wants even though her dad doesn’t want her to have it?

FFS. He's a muppet (though that's probably not news to you). Get her the calendar.

Grimbles · 12/11/2018 16:19

Why does he think PJ Masks is for boys?

MinecraftHolmes · 12/11/2018 16:19

Your ExH is a knob. Has he failed to notice that Owlette is a girl, if it's against Da Rules for girls to like things that aren't about girls?

Chinks123 · 12/11/2018 16:19

It’s not for boys though. It’s dds favourite programme aswell and she’s getting that calendar. It’s what she wants so buy her it and tell him to do one. Hmm I don’t even know where to start with the whole wearing trousers thing..

Purpleartichoke · 12/11/2018 16:20

Get her the character she wants and tell him to stop being so sexist. He deserves a short lecture on raising strong women who embrace personal interests regardless of stereotypes.

ToffeeChocolate · 12/11/2018 16:21

I don’t even know where to start with the whole wearing trousers thing..

I used it as an example of her being girlie, I would never stop her wearing trousers if she wanted to, and I live in leggings. She has the choice if she wants to but always chooses skirts.

Its not for boys... and why would Peppa Pig be for girls... ?? He’s a twat. Ignore him

Dizzylin · 12/11/2018 16:21

YANBU. Since when has PJ masks been just for boys? DD and DS love it, they also both love Peppa and Nella.

Knittink · 12/11/2018 16:21

What a stupid sexist man. Advent calendars, like toys, are not operated by a person's genitals, so why would there be different ones for boys and girls?

MrsPussinBoots · 12/11/2018 16:22

PJ Masks is brilliant for girls - a female heroine who doesn't wear pink! My DD is having the PJ Masks advent calendar to go with her Owlette costume and various toys. He's an idiot.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 12/11/2018 16:22

I got DS a PJ Masks one too. PJ Masks is for girls and boys, they're a girl and two boys having adventures.

KM99 · 12/11/2018 16:22

Erm, tell your ExH that Owlette is the kick-arse one in the group! I've never considered once that PJ Masks is a boy's thing. It's a kid's thing.

Tell your ExH I'm might get my 4 year old DS a my little pony for Christmas as he loves them. That will freak him out! 😄

AFOLNerd · 12/11/2018 16:23

Get her the calendar, this is the exact nonsense my ex comes out with. I just ignore him now.
My dd aged 4 has requested a Star Wars one.

Vvmevvme · 12/11/2018 16:23

I’m going to go against the grain here and say no don’t get it.

He’s an absolute dickwad and it shouldn’t and doesn’t matter (girlie ffs) BUT she’s 3 and never having it and having something else she will love equally would be less heartbreaking than if her arsehole father throws away her advent calendar on a point of principle.

HopeGarden · 12/11/2018 16:24

I thought PJ Masks was unisex?

One of the 3 superheroes is a girl.

And Peppa Pig seems popular enough with boys.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/11/2018 16:25

Tell your dh if he's been opening advent calendars with his penis he's been doing it wrong all his life.

Then buy her the pj masks calender

EnglishRose13 · 12/11/2018 16:26

My mum bought my son a Peppa Pig one. It didn't even cross my mind that it should be for girls. He bloody loves that vile pig!

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/11/2018 16:26

Sorry exh

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/11/2018 16:26

3 little girls were playing 'PJ masks' in the playground earlier. I had no idea what it was so had to google Blush

Reassure the plank that. one of the PJ masks is a nice pink girly one so no one will be catching the gay from an advent calendar... Then be happy that he's an ex Wink

olivesarelife · 12/11/2018 16:27

Oh no its for boys? My dd loves it. Ha. Tell him to travel back to 2018.

OutPinked · 12/11/2018 16:27

It’s not for boys at all. There’s no such thing as ‘for boys/girls’, especially not when they’re three years of age. He’s a nob, definitely get her it.

Theweasleytwins · 12/11/2018 16:28

But there is a girl in it? Would he thing paw patrol is not for girls as it has the same ratio as girls?

MaHeidsGouping · 12/11/2018 16:29

My DD (age 4) has picked out a Pokemon calendar. Buy her what she wants.

Omzlas · 12/11/2018 16:30

My DD loves PJ Masks

He's a knob

Buy the calendar

OhFlipMama · 12/11/2018 16:30

Is this honestly for real? I didn't think people still could be so adamant about things like this.

Absolutely buy it.
