Help! Best Shark vacuum for hardwood floors?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 12/11/2018 13:37

Urghhhh not an AIBU but posting for traffic (no response in chat, my thread is too boring evidently!) as I'd like to purchase today.

Does anyone have experience using a Shark vacuum on hardwood floors?
If so which model do you have?

I currently get by with a combination of sweeping and mopping but I'd like to invest in a Shark after hearing all the great things Grin

I was about to purchase the corded liftaway NV681UKT as it's on Amazon deal of the day. I can probably cope okay with a cord - some reviews state the corded ones are more powerful anyway.
However one of the reviewers says it's made hideous track marks on her oak floor Shock Shock

Most of the reviews don't state whether the vac is being used on carpet or hard flooring. I'm currently in the process of changing from carpet to wood/ polished floorboards throughout - only the stairs will remain carpeted.
I also have a prone-to-moulting (in winter?!) cat so I thought I'd cracked it with the superior pet version on offer today Star

Now I'm wondering if the cordless would be better. I really want to simplify and speed up the hoovering process - I don't want to be vacuuming gingerly in case I damage the floor!

Any help appreciated Grin

I have this one, you have to switch between carpet and hard settings, easy to do just a switch on the handle. I think it’s quite heavy though. Another thing is because I have multiple pets I find it chokes up with hair too frequently. Also had to buy replacement filters, the spongy white dust filters need washing often. Or maybe we’re just extra mucky.

Thanks for the feedback StrongTea!

I might wait until Black Friday and see if I can pick up a Shark cordless then. I quite like the idea of whizzing round with something more lightweight!
It's only me and the cat but but of us moult and I can't stand it ShockGrin

I have the gtech air ram (which is cordless) and it's very good on hard floors.

I have just got the Duo Clean (NV801). It is AWESOME and shows just how little my Vax was picking up.

It was full after doing just the downstairs loo and the hall! I've also had to cut to mini-ponytails of my hair from the brush - all missed the previous day by the Vax either that or a wig has exploded over my house

I have hardwood floors and I use the rocket truepet, it works well in our house as it’s good on the wooden floor but we also have carpet on the stairs.
As far as I can tell it’s not made any track marks on the floor or anything

Thank you both! I really need to commit to a purchase, all the bargains are flying around this week in the run up to Black Friday Grin

OP we bought that model last year. It's brilliant on hardwood floors and the lift away is great for carpeted stairs

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 15/11/2018 11:45

Thanks everyone, this info is really useful! I'm going to sit down tonight and find a deal 😁

Hi Op.... I too have this model. Purchased this year after many years of Dyson corded and fed up with them losing suction and being flimsy.
I will never go back to Dyson again after purchasing this Shark model. I have wood and carpet flooring and find it absolutely perfect on both. As a previous poster said, the switch is on the handle as simple to adjust.
I find you have to empty the tank fairly frequently and I wash the filter every month. But we are a family of 6 with two dogs and a cat also.
The lift off function is brilliant for the stairs and under furniture. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this vacuum. I also find it manoeuvres really well and personally don’t find it heavy at all.
You will not regret it if you get it. I think I paid £299 in march from argos, so if cheaper than this..... go for it!!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 15/11/2018 17:34

Which one do you have @luanmapo? The NV801 or NV681 (or another one altogether Grin)

Thanks for all this feedback, it's helping me not make an expensive mistake!

I have the NV681UKT the burgundy coloured one. Honestly you will not regret it.

ShalomJackie · 15/11/2018 17:51

I jave the NV680 which I assume must predate the 681. It sounds the same as the others as switch on handle between hard floors and carpet. Mine was £199 on Qvc and included extra accessories thrown in and a free Shark steam mop. So check out the TV channels to see if they have promo coming. (Also preciously a dyson and will never go back now)!

Awesome thanks everyone! I usually check HUKD to see who's running the best deal but good tip about the extras! Grin
