To be even considering trying to wash this?!

I was given an item of baby clothing by a friend, it has sentimental value and another couldn’t be made (similar sort of idea to the cushions made from peoples jumpers). My 1yo has only recently grown into it and I noticed the other day that it wasn’t in the drawer or in the washing.

I asked my DH who said he hadn’t seen it either. I was clearing out the changing bag today and found the item tied in a nappy bag stuffed in an inside pocket. When I asked DH about it there was a lightbulb moment and he explained that the 1yo had a leaky nappy and so one of the legs got soaked in urine and he’d totally forgot about it. He apologised and said maybe we should just throw it out given it’s been piss soaked in a plastic bag for around 2 weeks?

I’m considering trying to wash it, it’s not a delicate material or anything.. but the smell of urine is pretty strong Confused.

Should I just throw it out?

Wee washes out. Hopefully it’ll be fine.

Lymphy · 11/11/2018 22:55

No I'd just wash it, see what it's like when it's dry

angelikacpickles · 11/11/2018 22:57

Why on earth wouldn't you wash it? It will be fine.

Singlenotsingle · 11/11/2018 22:57

No. At least try to see if it's salvageable before thinking about chucking it out. Hand wash and look on Google for the best products CTS to use.

LadyLaSnack · 11/11/2018 22:57

It might take a couple of cycles, but if it’s sentimental you should be able to save it.

spray in white vinegar, leave for 20 mins then wash

OwlinaTree · 11/11/2018 23:01

Just wash on a hot wash, it will be fine.

Theredtoyphone · 11/11/2018 23:39

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if the smell would come out since it’s been so long.. I’ll maybe try vinegar.

Napisan!

ScottishMummy12 · 11/11/2018 23:43

Soak it in vinegar then wash with strong smelling clothes softener and if possible when washed hang outside. That should get rid of the smell.

Drogosnextwife · 11/11/2018 23:44

Soak first in vinegar or even just a lot of soap powder (biological soap powder) then wash.

IWantMyHatBack · 11/11/2018 23:44

Just wash it fgs, it's only piss Confused

angelikacpickles · 11/11/2018 23:46

I'd be very surprised if it takes more than one wash or any special treatment. Use bio washing powder.

CSIblonde · 12/11/2018 00:20

Soak in biotex & cold water first then wash as normal.

OwlinaTree · 12/11/2018 22:31

Napisan if you've got it.
