AIBU SN special...............to be p******* of with dd's bus driver

dd has cp and goes to an sn school . she goes on a bus with a driver, escort and 3 other young people.
the escort is a waste of space and the driver does most of the work, it is him who wheels her on the bus and off a gain,
on friday dd wasn't well and I picked her up at lunchtime(she had a cold)
I kept her of monday and sent her back to day she is not 100% but as we all know colds hang about. she seemed fine although snotty and she didn't want to go to school,(nothing new there)
when she came hom the driver told me he had been told her nose had been running all day. he more or less told me I should be keeping her off
when I checker her home school diary no mention was made of this. the teacher said that dd had said she was unwell, but she does that most days anyway,
I am annoyed and think the driver has over stepped the mark. surely his job is to drive her to school and not to tell me what to do.
I have had issues before and had to tell the school not to tell him anything.

Mmm not sure, it depends how he said it. He may have just been trying to show an interest in your dd rather than just delivering her like a parcel. Maybe you were being a bit over-sensitive due to having had problems with him before? It does sound like the sort of thing our driver would say but thinking he's being helpful iyswim.

Then again, your driver might have said it in an accusing way, accompanied by glaring. In which case, feel free to rant away .

he is a sweetie but he kinda takes over. I don't think it is really his place to imply that I shouldn't send her in

i take children to school and you do try to take an interest. Maybe he was just making conversation? Someone must have said something at school.

He has overstepped the mark a bit, but if he is good at his job generally, and your DD likes him, I think I'd let it go.

Sometimes, we pass a message through the driver/escort ? but then not usually if they have a home-school book.

what Pixel says - I think you had to have been there to know exactly how he meant it. If he's good at the rest of his job, I think nod smile and ignore the other stuff (while mentally screaming mind your own bloody business if it's nothing too dire.

Yeah thats a common one here (not looking in the book)

Ours tend do to be the remind them they need swimming stuff tomorrow type stuff (able kids) rather than the personal/health stuff.

I have put a note in he diary to remind the staff not to tell him stuff.
Just hope he doesn't do it tonight as I will be out and dh will be here. he will most likely tell him to f off

at the end of the day the way your post has come acrosss to me is that the driver is doing things that isnt in his job role and the escort should be doing a bit more. I think perhaps the driver has over stepped the mark a little but it really is not his pleace to say. If you have concerns i would speak to the teacher about it

for some reason the driver seems to do all the work. he is the one who comes to the door and the one who does all the parent contact. have to say he is great in most ways. he puts a lot into the job. you should see the bus decorations at christmas

sounds to me like he is taking an interest.You already said the escort is useless and the driver does most of the work so it is inevitable he would be concerned. Better that totally ignore her don't you think?

On some of our taxis the escort has to stay on the bus in case of problems(behaviour/medical) and its the driver that gets off to help the child on and off (and therefore would be te one in main contact with the parent)

Slight hijack here but....
Every day on my way home from work on my bike I pass or am passed by a mini bus carrying children, I have seen two different drivers and neither of them EVER use their indicators, they take children to the same estate I live on and usually we cross paths at least 3 times. I now know its route and so know where it is turning but before this I have had a few near misses. I don't know which school it takes children to or who the bus is operated by. Who should I report it to?

all is ok now. i think tbh I felt a little bit worried that I had sent her back to soon. so his comments hurt.
the escort doesn't have to stay on the bus. none of the others used to. but even though she is useless they make a good team and dd is very happy with them. we have had some bad ones over the years. one was a young lad who never spoke!! dd used to cry on the bus.
so I will bite my tounge and smile sweetly.

if you look in the phone book under your council there should be a number for school transport. ours is a seperate company(community transport)

2shoes the children are being taken to and from a special needs facility would that still be under school transport?

if you ring school transport they will be able to tell you which local company does the sn runs.
