To think Trump had the right idea...

DS2 is a Beaver Scout so today is the non optional Remembrance Parade. He is my third child and all have gone through scouts so I have been attending these parades, and the St George’s Day ones, every single year for the past ten years.

The weather is particularly filthy today. DH drives, I don’t. So I have ‘suggested’ that he drive him down to the village and pick him up after without either of us standing in the pissing rain.

DH has said that he will stand and watch him and indicated that he thinks I am being lazy and churlish not to. I’ve told him to bob on.

I’ve been at work all week, the house is a tip, I’ve got plenty to do here and I’ll have a roast dinner waiting for them when I get back.

I’m not the President and my attendance or non attendance is utterly irrelevant here, and there’s no point both (either, if I’m honest) of us getting soaked and cold.

AIBU?

YABU. You do realise today is a unique event, yes?

Spudlet · 11/11/2018 08:41

YABU for suggesting that Trump has the right idea, about anything, ever. He was almost unbelievably disrespectful to not attend the cemetery (only almost because there is no crass idiocy that I'd disbelieve from that quarter now).

You can do as you please, obvs Smile

MsVestibule · 11/11/2018 08:42

I don't understand your title (have I missed something on the news?) but YANBU. Do you and your DH normally attend these parades together and he thinks you're being a lightweight for ducking out of this one?

TheHulksPurplePanties · 11/11/2018 08:44

YANBU, Donald Trump is being incredibly unreasonable, and a child.

JacquesHammer · 11/11/2018 08:44

YABU for saying Trump had the right idea.

As to the rest it’s impossible to say. Do you usually both watch him? Does he want you there?

I’m afraid standing outside in shitty weather comes with the territory of having kids!

Is it important to your son that you go?

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 11/11/2018 08:45

I was kidding about Trump, btw, in case that wasn’t obvious. He’s a despicable specimen.

Yes, we have gone as a family every year for ten years. This is the first year they have allowed the Beavers to wear coats over their uniforms as the weather is so bad. I think that’s enough of a barometer for me to say thanks but no.

The parade is not 'non-optional'
When my son was a Beaver/Cub/Scout I wrote a brief but polite note informing the leaders that my son would not be attending any church parades are we are not christians.
No problem.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/11/2018 08:58

This isn't a 'Christian' event though Confused
