For wanting to do a ouija board?

I’m going through a weird time in my life. I just want to know if there is anything else out there, anything unexplained? Supernatural.
I’ve always been fascinated with ghosts etc and I want to do a ouija board. I’ve done one once, but I did it alone and nothing happened.
My husband refuses to do one but I’ve found a mate who is willing.
I’m simply curious. I know, logically, nothing can or will happen but I just have to try it.

Has anyone done one? Did anything happen or aibu to give this a second thought?

Ever heard of the phrase..curiosity killed the cat.
If you don't know what you are doing...dont do it.

EurekaStreet · 09/11/2018 21:36

The only thing you will experience when using an ouija board is the well-attested ideomotor effect. Unless you’re friend is a joker in which case you will be told the date of your own death (next week) by a malign spirit called Pongo.

EurekaStreet · 09/11/2018 21:36

YOUR friend.

Blanchedupetitpois · 09/11/2018 21:37

It’s just a boardgame. It can’t tell you anything.

beeefcake · 10/11/2018 00:21

I've done them a few times they can be really interesting and a good experience.

Don't do it with someone who doesn't believe though, there is nothing worse than someone who keeps accusing you of moving the planchette on purpose.

Visit a psychic and get useful info if you want to see what’s out there, don’t invite random spirits into your home.

Grrrrrrt · 10/11/2018 04:35

Watch videos of people doing ouija boards blindfolded - pretty comprehensively debunks them.

And there are much more enjoyable board games out there.

Adversecamber22 · 10/11/2018 05:06

You need to question why you have a change of how you feel about life. It may be a genuine curiosity or a restlessness with life generally . That's the actual issue.

Unicyclethief · 10/11/2018 05:16

Yeah it's just a game. It can't tell you any more than a magic 8 ball. Wooooooooo

FruminousBandersnatch · 10/11/2018 06:05

"Visit a psychic and get useful info if you want to see what’s out there, don’t invite random spirits into your home."

A psychic is about as "useful" as a boardgame for predicting the future.

Grin It's a boardgame. An inanimate object. Not a portal to hell!

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 06:12

Don't do it. It is not a board game.

Unicyclethief · 10/11/2018 06:17

It’s not a board game what is it then?

GreenMeerkat · 10/11/2018 06:20

Nothing will happen.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 10/11/2018 06:33

I have one, seriously nothing happens unless I’m pushing it.

It’s good fun if you know someone who is a complete believer and you get them to play it with you though, people are so easy to wind up.

You've clearly never played Monopoly with my family...

Don't do it. I don't know how it works and I'm an atheist cynic but when I did it, it did work and I didn't like it.

Alfie190 · 10/11/2018 07:09

what is it then.

Well right back at you, how is it a game?

if you believe in it then there is definitely no game about it and you would know that.

If you don't believe in it then how is sitting around a board asking if there is anyone there or whatever, a game? What is the objective of the game? How do you win? What are the rules?

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2018 07:10

@EurekaStreet - is that you, Miss Climpson?

EurekaStreet · 10/11/2018 07:57

Shh, @Bertrand, the poor, earthbound spirit of Cremona Garden is trying to come through, and I’m having to do a lot of knee-rapping and table-jiggling. Grin

dayswithaY · 10/11/2018 08:10

Brilliant!

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2018 08:41

This has made me disproportionately happy......

It started out as a board game and used to be played as regularly as Monopoly. There’s nothing genuinely supernatural (or ‘woo’, as MN would have it) about it.

nicebitofquiche · 10/11/2018 08:57

Use one if you want to. It's just a board. It won't tell you anything. Because it's just a board and it can't.
