Unhelpful bank teller or me?

lenlo · 09/11/2018 20:49

Today I went to deposit £4000 into my bank account. I handed over the cash and the teller informs me that I need to unfold the bundles (I had wrapped a £20 note around 4 other £20's).

Aibu to think that she could've helped me out? I was metres from a busy high street and only had a very small ledge to do this. I just felt quite vulnerable.

I'm happy to accept I'm being unreasonable. I was already a bit ticked off as I had been waiting 10 minutes to be seen when a new window opened up and this cheeky cow cut right in front of me. Also, apparently the systems were down so I couldn't make a bank transfer (despite having heard the chap in front me do the same). No apology just a gormless stare. Just a really pointless experience.

I've had a horrible cold for the past few days- worst sore throat ever, so that's probably why I'm so moody.

Or u could have unbundled them before going into the bank

lenlo · 09/11/2018 20:53

Of course, I would in hind sight. I didn't know, having never deposited such a large amount of cash before.

I think it's all to do with the tone, if they had asked nicely it probably wouldn't have been a problem. Don't let it bother you, you didn't do anything wrong and you'll know for next time how to present the money.

If they are bundled and she is straightening them out you could accuse her of theft. The less handling of cash she does the better.

leghairdontcare · 09/11/2018 20:54

How many bundles did you have? Your description implies you had 40 of them. How long did it take you to unbundle them? It seems unreasonable to make people wait behind you whilst the cashier did it. She was probably thinking of other customers.

Fluffyears- I didn't think of that- fair enough

leghairdontcare- there was no one behind me

Crappy and unprofessional. Unfortunately banks are making it harder and harder to deal in cash. Policies like unfolding the notes, limiting change deposits are all part of this. they just don't want to deal with cash.
