Amazon putting orders on the homepage

A few days ago, DD mentioned she had seen a hoodie she liked. After she went to bed, I went on Amazon and ordered it to put away for Christmas.

Today she came in from school and the strap on her bag has broken. I said we'd look on Amazon for a new one. Loaded up the home screen and there is a tile with a picture of the hoodie under a heading saying "your recent order." Surprise ruined!

Contacted Amazon and they said there is nothing they can do about it. Even if you hide the order in your order history, it still can be randomly selected to be shown on the front page.

There is no way you can disable this from being shown either. It's not my last order either as I've ordered a something else since ordering the hoodie.

Just thought I'd give people a heads up in case they are ordering gifts for Christmas.

Once they sent me a parcel which was a gift for my DH, a record player. It was sent without an outer box, just the box that the record player came in....with a big picture of the record player on it. Guess whose surprise was ruined?

I emailed Amazon and they apologised and actually refunded me £10 for the trouble.

Just set up a new account with a different email address. You can link it to your main account with Prime. Just buy your surprises on that account. Bingo.

Thanks for the heads up. Amazon nearly completely ruined bonfire night for us the other day.
My son has sensory processing disorder and hates loud noises and crowd noise but loves firework displays. I ordered him ear defenders and paid for prime 10 days before we needed them. I kept contacting them and they telling them they hadn't arrived the next day but they said I had to give it 7 days. After 7 days I complained again and they said they were out of stock now and they couldn't guarantee they'd be here by the Monday as it was the Weekend the next day and I would have to pay express delivery and pay for more expensive ones, despite me having prime.
I kicked off massively and all they gave us was an extra month of prime, that I don't want. Really disappointed with them.

Sorry about my amazon rant, but I wanted a moan Grin

PiggeryPorcombe · 09/11/2018 18:06

Yes it’s most annoying. I started to just use the app for ordering and browsing alone. I then use the mobile website without signing in for looking at things with the children. You can share links via messaging if there’s a chance you won’t remember the thing they’ve selected Grin

WidowTwonky · 09/11/2018 18:09

Just make sure you log out after placing your order then it won’t show it

EmeraldShamrock · 09/11/2018 21:17

Yanbu. It is a pain. I thought my logging out of my account it would change, DD also seen her vanity case I ordered.

I know it doesn't help you now but I've just spotted this for future reference "this is gift do not link to my account"

Stuff comes up on amazon adverts on your facebook feed too, which someone might see on your ipad when looking over your shoulder...

goingatlast · 18/11/2018 09:31

Edith, where is that bit? I've just tried it on Amazon but I'm not getting that option.

EdithBouvier · 18/11/2018 11:31

I followed a link to buy something and it was on there. But don't think it shows on the Amazon app annoyingly where I usually do all my shopping. So if you want to use this you need to stop via their internet page rather than the app or message Amazon and ask them if it's on the app.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/11/2018 11:43

I was just coming in to say you can tick the "This is a gift" option when you order... but that is now too late in 2 different ways Smile

goingatlast · 18/11/2018 15:00

ahh, I didn't tick the this is a gift box. I shall remember this in future. Thanks for the tip.
