Aibu to ask for mumsnet collective wisdom - on mirrored dressing table

I’ve always wanted a mirrored dressing table. Now that we’re old we can afford a house with a dressing corridor room.

It has mirrored wardrobe doors on the one side and space for a dressing table on the other.

Dd says a mirrored dressing table would be ‘too much, and it would be like the Versailles hall of mirrors’. The other option is an Ikea dark wood dressing table which will be cheaper but more boring .

I know there is an interiors board but I’ve posted here for traffic.

What do you think?

i honestly hate them, couldn't think of anything worse... but its not going in my house so really, if you like it then why not!

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 09/11/2018 16:51

I don't think I'd personally want one but that might be because the thought of one more thing to clean regularly (which mirrors need or they look crap) would make me want to smash the thing!

Dobbyhasnomaster · 09/11/2018 16:52

I love mine! Go for it

teaandtoast · 09/11/2018 16:54

If you've always wanted one, get one. You can always change the wardrobe! Wink

IJustLostTheGame · 09/11/2018 16:55

I've got a Victorian one.
I love it and use it every day.

Winterbella · 09/11/2018 16:56

Wouldn't touch any mirrored furniture its all hideous

Ruleof4 · 09/11/2018 16:59

I am an interior designer and I have mirrored furniture in my room, love it!

KC225 · 09/11/2018 17:00

If you have always wanted one, get one. You :be paid your dues, reap your mirrored dressing table reward.

MakeAHouseAHome · 09/11/2018 17:01

I used to really really want one. Now I have my own house and started looking into them, I realised how tacky they can look. And what a nightmare to keep looking clean and shiny! Keep the mirrored wardrobes, go for a wooden (but modern) dressing table and then maybe have a nice mirror above it?

PlateOfBiscuits · 09/11/2018 17:02

Something like this you mean?

I’m a firm believer you should have things in your home that make you happy. If this makes you happy then go for it!

Keep the area nice and light and it could look perfect in your room.

Not my thing OP and kind of agree with your H.

AnonyMousee · 09/11/2018 17:06

I LOVE them, but think about the cleaning element... I can imagine there will be finger prints daily - that would drive me mad!

NoSquirrels · 09/11/2018 17:10

If you live it and you want it, then buy it.

I wouldn’t be taking my DH’s opinion on a dressing table into account - it’s not a piece of furniture he’ll use.

But I would never dust or clean it enough so they’re not for me.

MyCakeFellOnTheGrass · 09/11/2018 18:14

No sticky little fingers. Only me and a box of winded wipes. I’m just worried it will feel like I’m in a circus hall of mirrors.

If you put something like a lovely lush chair in there as well then it won’t look too over done in mirrors.

If it is literally a bare room with a mirrored built in wardrobe and a mirrored dressing table and stool then it might.

MyCakeFellOnTheGrass · 09/11/2018 22:32

I was going to have a see through chair with a fake sheepskin throw.
