to ask to interview the following day?

This is stressing me out because I'm not sure what the best thing to do is so thought I'd turn to you ladies for some advice.
I have a telephone interview tomorrow morning for a job I really want and am well qualified for. I received an email this afternoon just confirming the phone interview and saying that if I am successful, the face to face interview will be on Wednesday and they'll advise me of a time if they want to see me. My day off is on a Thursday and I'm stressing out about how to make it work. Do you think it's reasonable if I get asked to go, to ask them if it's possible to interview on the Thursday instead and explain that it's my day off work, but if it's not possible I'll make it work? I don't want them to think I don't want the job and I'm just not sure whats appropriate.

Thanks anyone who reads

I forgot to add that my current employer obviously doesn't know I've applied for the job so I'm not sure how I could arrange the time off. I thought about asking to swap my day off however if they say no, then I'd be screwed! Any ideas on that would be appreciated also. I hate the idea of ringing in sick.

Definitely ask, they would be unreasonable to think badly of you for this.

It is perfectly reasonable to ask, but they may well not be able to accommodate it. We have a nightmare trying to assemble a panel due to all the clashing commitments, and if interviewing several people for the same post they have to assemble the same people, which can get tricky.

I've done a lot of interviewing and would never mind anyone asking. They might not be able to accommodate your request, but I doubt they’ll take a negative view of you asking.

We interview on specific days. We wouldn't be able to reconvene the panel for one candidate the day after.

Just ask, to be honest I like a candidate who can't drop anything last minute with their current employer. Less than a week notice for a day off for most work places is a issue unless you have an imaginary emergency.
