To wonder if I did actually break my toe!!

Just over 6 weeks ago I was riding my bike very fast on a rough, gravel/stony path. My left foot was down on the pedal as I free wheeled really fast. All of a sudden I noticed a sizeable lump of concrete stuck up in the path. It was too late for me to avoid it as I was going too quick. My left big toe slammed into it and for a split second I felt not very much apart from panic. Then the pain hit and I was in agony and had to get off my bike and sit on the ground. There was no one about and stupidly I had no phone so eventually I had to get up and walk home for about 20mins. I could not put any weight at all on it and it was swollen but thought it a waste of time to go to hospital. The next few days it turned black and purple but the pain eased alot. However it's never been right since. It looks ok but I keep getting throbbing pains every now and again even when I'm resting. It's not agonising but a dull ache. I don't want to waste anyone's time and don't see what could be done but am thinking nearly 7 weeks later it should be ok now?

Sounds like you did break it. It probably would be an idea to get an xray on it, it may not have set properly.

I also think it sounds like it could be broken. It will need an x-ray to confirm.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 08/11/2018 22:56

I did something similar and it took ages to heal. I went to the doctor who basically said it would heal faster if I stopped irritating it by wearing heels etc Blush assuming you have been more sensible than me though it probably is worth going to get it looked at to find out why it isn't healing as fast as it should

I don't even know if they x-ray suspected broken toes? As they can't do anything. I hurt my big toe years ago (understatement!). Went to the doctor as didn't know what to do as could hardly walk. He give it a little wobble and said it wasn't broken.
Well, it must have been. Can't move the bugger now all these years later.

I was told when I stubbed my toe with a lot of force years ago that I had probably broken it but they wouldnt treat it since there was little they could do. Hurts like a bugger some days but nothing much I can do about it now.

This is the problem isn't it. I'm too embarrassed to go to a and e. Especially as its fine to look at. Not sure if they would do anything. Yet it's hurt me all night but again not agonising pain just pain!

I drop a large glass bowl on my big toe, eariler this year got a lovely big cut. They did x-ray it to check it wasn't broken, but due to the tissue damage it's taken a while to heal. I've had physio to as not walking or not properly on your foot can cause you all sorts of problems with your legs and back. It's still stiff but a lot better then it was.

Go get it looked at, it may need resetting or a boot till it heals. Then physio so you can walk on it properly. Anyone who can walk on their big toe properly get that looked at your probably causing problems with your back already. Storing up isuiess for latter in life.

I dropped something heavy on my big toe a few weeks ago and now I have the same problem. GP said nothing they can do just let it heal!
