Assignment due tomorrow on a topic I have no idea how to do, stressed to hell (I'm ill with sinus, ear, chest and throat infections) taking mild paracetamol and an assignment in Syntax due tomorrow at 12 I have no idea what to do with and an assignment in Semantics due Monday and a Philosophy one due sometime Sad.

I'm just feeling really low and sorry for myself tonight and will most likely be up all night working on it and my seminar work that is due tomorrow.

Go make the hot chocolate. You deserve it.

Can you get an extension due to being ill?

What are the assignments about, maybe we can give you ideas?

Yes to asking for an extension due to illness.

What course are you doing?

Imnotaslimjim · 07/11/2018 20:45

Email whoever you need to now to request an extension. I'm at university and I can get 5 days without medical evidence. Wherever institute you're under may have a similar rule. Then have your hot drink some paracetamol and get yourself to bed.

You ate if you don't use amaretto for the booze. My personal preference is milka chocolate (when I can get hold of it) and disorano. With cream and marshmallows, obviously.

Try to remember to care for yourself.

I'm going to email asking for an extension. I thought it was a formative and not counting towards my degree but its a summative which means its worth 10% of the module. Which isn't a lot but I still want a decent grade. Thing is I was off last week because a close family member was rushed into hospital and we were told she had 24 hours to respond to medication before they started palliative care. She was in hospital for a week but is home now thank goodness, but I live and study in another part of the country so while she was ill and we were being told to take it hour by hour there was no way I was leaving the immediate area. Thankfully I have learning difficulties which mean I'm more likely to receive an extension. I may just ask for an additional week as that is what I lost and I'll get the Semantics one (which thankfully doesn't count) out of the way before devoting my time to the one that does.

Please don't work yourself too much!

I'm studying philosophy and linguistics Confused I'm a mature student (early 20's) in my first year so feel like I should be on top of everything and on the ball with it but I'm just not. Syntax is one of those subjects with an absolutely right answer which is nice when you know what your doing, but horrific when you don't because you can't blag it at all Grin. That's why I like some elements of philosophy. Linguistics as a whole however is more like a science or maths is there is a defined correct and incorrect route.

I've gone for ASDA smart price (arguably the best hot chocolate) with Captain Morgan's Spiced rum and Baileys, Which may be interfering with the paracetamol, illness and general tiredness because I feel slightly out of it after what would amount to less than 3 or 4 shots in a sports direct mug.

It's just been a sucky couple of weeks really and my friends/housemates are having bonfire night tomorrow and I'm 'in charge of lighting the fireworks' because I'm an 'adult' apparently Grin I've never lit a firework in my life. Which I intend to set off and then hide in my room because I don't think 18/20 year olds drinking should play with fire. Which means I'm also in charge of the bonfire.

I think you need to figure out how to effectly plan your work out. It’s only November so I’m guessing these might be your first university assignments? I get it - honestly I remember working late through the night completing essays I assumed I had loads of time for and never got around to doing - but If you don’t figure out how to manage things now you are really doing to struggle next year and onwards when you find you have 5 modules due in the space of a week.

Get through tonight with your hot chocolate and tackle the assignment. Then draw yourself a timetable and stick to it. Philosophy is not as ‘blag friendly’ as it seems at the moment, as there is a lot of reading and interpreting texts involved.

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 07/11/2018 21:11

Yeah I'm usually pretty good at sticking to the timetable I have and keeping up with deadlines in a healthy way but the last couple of weeks, well since my aunt became ill and I got back to uni everything has been upside down.

Which sucks because I've now got a load of catching up and staying on top of things to do. When before I was ahead Sad Luckily it's manageable but I dread to think what it could become if I'm not careful with my time. Aside from church and bible study I don't 'do' societies. (I probably should but I've decided not to until next term and I have my time management down to an art). The blagging thing was intended as tongue in cheek Grin my sisters think its a degree in bullsh**g. But I love it, some it is easier than others though and there is definitely more room for opinion than linguistics in philosophy assignments.
