To think puppies are hard work! (But worth it).

He's 5 months old and oh my God... He is a devil.

I'm lay in the bath and it's the first down time I've managed to have since getting home. He's now asleep on the bathroom floor after trying to climb in the bath with me several times and trying desperately to drink my soapy bath water. He loves water and will clamber into the bath whenever I run it.

Aibu to not have expected how difficult puppies were?! I did my research but blimey I feel like I've got another child, constantly watching what he's doing, worrying about what he's just picked up in his mouth, panicking when he goes quiet for a minute in the other room and finding what else he's done when I go in (usually a bin over the floor or torn up cardboard everywhere).

I mean I absolutely love him, he's part of the family (and probably everyone's favourite member). But I can't believe how mischievous something so small can be!

It's completely normal! Come over to The Doghouse, where there's even a puppy survival thread.

TiredAndaBitBored · 07/11/2018 19:53

I've just had a look now and posted! Glad it's not just me, I thought mine was broken Grin

Puppies are a pain in the arse. When they hit their teenage stage they are bloody stubborn.

But yes when they hit adulthood you can sit back and think it was all worth it Grin

Pissedoffdotcom · 07/11/2018 19:57

I hate puppies 🙈 i love the cuteness, the smell, the general awww factor...but by god dealing with a puppy is exhausting. I used to foster for various rescues & made it clear i didn't do youngsters. Give me a golden oldie any day 😍

It does get better of course, and they become wonderful members of the household. But when i see someone saying they're getting a puppy i cringe 😂

Popc0rn · 07/11/2018 20:02

Mine is two years old now and snoozing in the hall through some fireworks atm. It gets easier!

TiredAndaBitBored · 07/11/2018 20:04

It's almost comedic.

There's this little cute bundle of cuteness and in reality it's actually the spawn of Satan.

When he's asleep everyone's awwing and cooing and im thinking 'keep quiet, whisper if you have to, do not wake the fucking thing up!'

Yes, exactly this. I was astounded at how hard having a puppy was and I was really well informed and prepared, and had done a ton of research. And then, bam, adolescence Confused

But oh my god. I love my dog so much I can't stand it sometimes. She's a nice sensible adult now with an occasional bonkers bit thrown in. She's wonderful.

TiredAndaBitBored · 07/11/2018 20:08

Popc0rn surprisingly he's not been phased by fireworks at all. Not even a flinch! Glad about that.

Yep, you’ll get followed into the toilet all over again, followed into the kitchen and stared at with sad eyes. Lose things. Never see anything so excited when you come home.

Pissedoffdotcom · 07/11/2018 20:11

OP you're very cruel to talk about such cuteness & not include a photo...

TiredAndaBitBored · 07/11/2018 20:11

We have a cat and bless her she's constantly being hassled. She takes it like a pro most of the time, and occasionally swipes him on the nose if he gets too annoying but I do feel for her!

Yes the sad eyes!!! I've never encountered anything like it. I would give that dog my soul when he looks at me with the puppy eyes!

Yes!! My three are all grown now and I do not miss the puppy stage 😂 it’s relentless! But there are so many lovely parts too especially all the firsts and introducing them to the world. I was very thorough with solialising mine so first time eating out at a restaurant, first train ride, first time at the park, first time meeting bigger and smaller animals etc was so much fun. I miss that part. The pissing, barking, chewing insanity? Not so much.

agnurse · 07/11/2018 20:13

That is completely normal. We have cats, but we adopted our Gatsby when he was a tiny kitten (2 months old). We dealt with some similar craziness at first!

His current "thing" is wanting to go outside. (We normally keep our cats inside for safety.) Thing is, he only goes two doors down to the neighbour's and then he sits there until someone comes home to let him in. Sometimes if it's really cold out he'll go outside and wants back in two minutes later. We just do our best not to let him out. I think what he really wants is to be with his people. (Gatsby loves people. He was rejected by his mother and hand reared. After we adopted him he promptly decided I was his mum.)

agnurse · 07/11/2018 20:14

Gatsby has just turned 1 and while he's a cat he still gives me the "sad eye" look. Usually it means one of two things:

"Mum, can I PLEASE have some of your food?" (Gatsby is very food-oriented. If you have food, even if it's a peanut butter sandwich, he kind of goes, "You has food? I like food! I can has food?")

"Mum, can I PLEASE go outside with you?"

Bambamber · 07/11/2018 20:18

My puppy is 8 months old and is a bit of a dick. When I got home from work she wasn't content with just sitting on my lap, she kept headbutting me until I gave her a proper cuddle and them farted on me.

I love her to pieces and wouldn't be without her, but my goodness she's harder work than my young toddler Grin

Pissedoffdotcom · 07/11/2018 20:20

See i'm all 'oooh' 'ahhh' at that adorable face, butter wouldn't melt!!

BiteyShark · 07/11/2018 20:22

Aww he looks very similar to how BiteyDog looked as a puppy.

BiteyDog is now 2 and I am so glad the puppy days are behind usGrin

QOD · 07/11/2018 20:23

festivelyfoolish · 07/11/2018 20:25

My dog had a delightful puppy habit of clamping his sharp teeth onto the bottom of whatever I was wearing and hanging on - he ruined 2 dressing gowns and an £80 skirt I was trying on and had just decided to return...

They are a pain. But so cute...take photos, you forget the bad bits! Ddog is ancient now.

Coffeeisnecessary · 07/11/2018 20:26

Look what my puppy did!! Ironic 🙄
