AIBU?

Because he’s already bloody everywhere.
Everywhere!
Why do mums do this to themselves? In the busiest mum month of the year... why add in a creepy little tell tale elf who models bad behaviour and encourages excessive consumption.
I know, I know, if I don’t like it just don’t do it... but I’ve been just not doing it for many, many years now. So I thought I’d throw in a wee MN rant for good measure.

I don’t really know what it is. I did see a Tesco display with lots of little elf dolls that said Elf on the a shelf, so I’m guessing it’s to do with that...?

Elf on the shelf vs Christmas Eve boxes: which is worse? It's a tough one but at least the elf is a bit of fun for a few days.

Never. Can't fucking stand them. (And I love Christmas).

My worst are the mums who put cutesy pics of what the fucking elf did overnight on social media EVERY FUCKING DAY.

NO-ONE CARES LOVE!

My 2 were too old for this when it first came out. However I wouldn’t have done it anyway. Seems a bit shit to me!

I don’t know what this shit is. So very very glad it wasn’t a thing when mine were growing up. From the few pictures I’ve seen it’s a fucking horrible scary looking horror of a thing. Why would anyone want that in their home?

I enjoy it and so do my kids. I don’t believe for a second grown women find it terrifying Hmm it’s just something to look down upon go make yourself feel good.

Its a load of wank and I would love to know where this came from and how it became a tradition all of a sudden. Like them bloody Xmas eve boxes? all so over the top. Not even just Xmas, all holidays are way over the top now, it's ridiculous.

I hate hate hate when I see them discussed as Christmas “traditions”. They’ve been around no time at all.

I can't think of anything better than telling my kids I've set a little spy on them in their own home. Grim. Worse is the "Santa Cam" though.

Going to be honest (do not do Christmas eve boxes) however my 7 year old has been asking why no elf comes to our house. And this year is a bad one daddy has advanced stage cancer so we have agreed (fucking hating it already) to do it. It was decided that have asked for no gifts for Christmas just for daddy to be better. At this point be is not doing so well so hopefully it's a distraction for her and her older sister. Because right not I would try anything to eliviate her grief and pain. However I agree it's fucking awful but sometimes tacky crap can help. ( was also recommend by a well known cancer organisation for ideas to distract around happy times that are not happy) but no way will this wanka elf be on Facebook because that I agree is shit.

I don't care if people do it. Off they go. But I hate seeing it every day on Facebook. I generally unfollow these people till Christmas is over.

ive always hated this as it goes against my parenting beliefs(we follow free range parenting)

i think its controlling the child by scare tactics/threatening ie be good or he will go back and tell santa on you

christmas eve boxes i think are nice though
