Aibu- Sexual Assault on school trip

Dd1 (14) went on a school trip to France last summer. Whilst on the trip the girls in the group were heavily harassed by what my daughter described as non European groups of adult males both in the metro and at notre dame. On 3 separate occasions on the metro girls in the group were groped on breasts and my daughter states one tried to put his hands up her skirt- she’s not the type to lie especially about something so serious. She ran to the teacher with her group and was told not to make a fuss. No police were informed whilst in France and as far as I can tell there was little safeguarding done by the supervising adults. The girls were repeatedly left alone in areas the males were clearly predating in. Dd and other affected girls complained to school immediately upon returning and the head called me to apologise. Which is how I found out about it all. Dd and I have discussed it and she wanted to forget it, however she’s since developed some pretty serious anxiety disorders and her camhs psychologist seems to think that the assault and lack of help from trusted adult has caused anxiety, agoraphobia and ptsd. Dd is in weekly counselling but I’m so angry at the school for rug sweeping- they repeated the trip this yr with similar results. I don’t really know what if anything I’m asking I’m just angry for my girl and feel part of her trust in adults is gone.

That is entirely unacceptable. This advice might help - www.gov.uk/complain-about-school.

Follow the school complaints procedure, if they don't respond with an action plan on how they will prevent this happening again then escalate to the LA and DoE if need be.

Thank you, I complained directly to the school. I will try the LA. I just feel helpless- I trusted them to look after her and they didn’t

Hi all

We've had a chat with the OP off the boards and ironed out our concerns so we're reinstating this thread now.

Just a reminder that we can never vouch for anyone 100%.
