Random neighbourhood child came into our house earlier while I was upstairs, and started playing with DS's colouring things. Cut to felt tip pen over my new and expensive text books, new and thankfully very inexpensive sofa bed, and my carpet. It's not their fault entirely though, because I shouldn't really be leaving these things lying about around small children in my own bollocking front room, into which they were not invited Hmm . An extra layer of annoyance, she's two years older than my son who knows to keep pens on the table and to only draw on things from the box!!

What's pissed you off lately? Lets rage together.

I hope you intend to show the dm tomorrow and expect new stuff??

PeapodBurgundy · 04/11/2018 20:07

I told the DM when I took the child home. It was her who pretty much said 'what do you expect leaving felt pens in her reach?'. Deeply unimpressed. Badly timed as I've spent the day battling to keep the place tidy so I can do a deep clean in advance of the bonfire party I'm hosting here tomorrow. It's hard enough with a toddler (who I'd turfed out into the garden out of my way, hence the door being open) and a newborn. the front room looks worse than it did this morning. It's come out of the sofa, but not the carpet. We've only had it down 2 months. It's a cheap shit one, but it's all we can afford at the moment as we've just bought the place and it's a top to bottom renovation project.

Fuck that noise! The parents of the child who did the damage can bloody well pay for that! They should be falling over themselves to apologise.

PotteryLady · 04/11/2018 20:20

Why weren't they watch their child?

1CantPickAName · 04/11/2018 20:21

I am of the mindset that you should’ve been supervising more closely, unless it was done deliberately. How old is the child?

1CantPickAName · 04/11/2018 20:22

Sorry, I misunderstood. The child was in your home uninvited?

Poppylizzyrose · 04/11/2018 20:23

Pissed off im poorly and pregnant Sad

PeapodBurgundy · 04/11/2018 20:25

You would think! I'd be mortified if it was my DS. Apparently not though. To a point I could understand her annoyance at pens being left around if her DD had been invited to play, but who the chuff thinks to hide things from other people's DC when you're not expecting anyone to call over. I don't have to hide pens from DS because he can behave himself with them!!! (The playdough on the other hand Grin )

Who was watching your toddler in the garden?

SingaporeSlinky · 04/11/2018 20:28

Random child? How old was this kid and why on earth weren’t they being supervised if you had to take them home? Assume quite young given what they’ve done to your belongings! CF parents to not profusely apologise!

TheDogAteMySock · 04/11/2018 20:31

Wow, she (the child's mother) is a CF! I would be invoicing her for the damage to the books. On a side note, Dr Beckmans carpet stain remover is the best thing for removing stains from carpets.

PeapodBurgundy · 04/11/2018 20:32

Poppylizzyrose Flowers pregnancy can be miserable enough without another poorly on top. Hope you feel better soon.

1CantPickAName correct, DS was in the garden, I was upstairs putting laundry away, watching DS on the camera we have. I had the monitor set to the camera facing away from the front door so I didn't see her come in. She took the bungee cord off the front gate and wandered in through the door which was open for DS to come and go as he pleased.

She's 4 (her DM told me mid rant)

peapod

Thanks Flowers babies wiggling away but I can’t barely move, ache all over and full of cold. Had the flu jab so it can’t be that.

PeapodBurgundy · 04/11/2018 20:37

Poppy have you had the jab recently? I got fluish symptoms about 5 days after having my jab

A 4 year old walked into your house and you had to take them home? There’s all kinds of things wrong with this. And the mum says you shouldn’t be leaving pens out in your own home? Maybe next time call 101 and tell them a child has been left on the streets unsupervised!

jgjgjgjgjg · 04/11/2018 20:42

Tell the Mum that you have contacted your insurance company but they have advised that they will not cover the costs and told you to inform the police of the damage to your property. But you would like to give her a chance to settle the matter privately before you do that, because obviously they will want to question her as to why her 4 year old was allowed to wander around outside and go into strange houses unattended and they might feel the need to refer to Social Services....

recklessruby · 04/11/2018 20:49

What the hell? Why is her kid wandering around unsupervised and it's your fault your own things in your own house got damaged?
The mother needs a reality check. Does her kid randomly wander into people's homes?
It might be someone dangerous next time or someone like me who doesn't have little kids and has cleaning products within reach and other dangerous things

1CantPickAName · 04/11/2018 21:55

I can’t find the words

Saffkat · 04/11/2018 22:30

You left your 2yo to play unsupervised in your front garden while you were upstairs? Were you able to watch him in the CCTV while doing other stuff?

PeapodBurgundy · 04/11/2018 23:25

Saffkat he's almost 3, and yes, our CCTV connects to all of the TVs so I can pop from room to room but still have an eye on him. The gate was bungee corded shut (which at last check he couldn't open, but he's not attempted to leave the garden ever, but he'd not be able to get out in the time it took me to get outside to intervene). I wasn't upstairs long (around 5 minutes at a guess, just long enough to sort two loads of laundry into a pile per person), but apparently that was long enough to colour in the books, off the edge onto the sofa, and leave two unlidded felt tips on the carpet.

Poppylizzyrose · 05/11/2018 18:22

Hey pea

Did you get things sorted?

My rant of the day is I’m still feeling poorly, having a cold and cough is so expensive! I spent 21 in the Chemist on Vicks, cough sweets, throat spray and forehead. Can’t believe how expensive the cough things are! Pharmaceuticals company are squeezing the poor! 😢

PeapodBurgundy · 06/11/2018 08:57

Pen came out of the sofa but not the carpet. We've already bought carpet for the DCs room which is the same size, so we're putting that carpet in the front room, and leaving the current laminate in their room. I only wanted to replace it for the noise aspect, there's nothing actually wrong with it. We'll buy carpet for there next year when we've paid of the windows Sad

Honey and a slice of lemon in water as hot as you can stand it is lovely on a sore throat if you can stomach it? I was horrifically sick during both pregnancies so couldn't have held anything like that down.
