AIBU in refusing to travel tomorrow

We’ve been at the in laws for half term (4-5 hour drive away). We’re due to go home tomorrow and DS (6) is due back at school on Monday.

I came down with a cold on Monday which made me feel a bit under the weather for most of the week but it didn’t stop me enjoying the break. Since yesterday however, I feel really unwell. I have a raging sore throat which nothing will touch and I have been in bed for most of the day.

DP took DS and DD (2) out to a family meal in a restaurant this evening which I had to miss as a result of being ill . I wasn’t happy about the timings as the DC wouldn’t get home until around 9pm but didn’t want them to miss out. It was nearer 10pm when they finally got home though. DS is always very challenging when he’s tired as he never sleeps in if he’s been up late. He can be also be challenging in the car taking it out on DD by leaning across her and hitting her or hitting DP’s seat when he’s driving.

So I don’t know if we should stay an extra day which would result in DS missing a day at school, his first one ever which I would feel really guilty about. DP would also have to take the day off work. However, the thought of sitting in a car for 5 hours feeling really ill and trying to stop DS from being difficult fills me with dread.

AIBU to delay by a day?

YABU- a little bit - logically I know that to be true as (probably) do you.

But honestly, if I were in your situation I’d be thinking the same.

At what point do responsibilities like getting the kids to school/ DP to work...etc, give way to self care?

If you do travel tomorrow you’re entitled to do bugger all appart from sit in the passenger seat unwell and occasionally offer a ‘they’re over tired because they were out so late’ when DP complains about misbehaving kids.
