Am I being rude?

I'm in a cafe, on my own. About to get my hair done but have popped in for a coffee. As I'm by myself, I'm listening to music on my phone ( with ear phones) and MNing.
The lady just brought my coffee over and I took my ear phones out and thanked her. As I put the back in, i just over heard the lady behind me tutting to her friend about it being rude to have earphones in!!
No one else can hear it, I'm on my own and I took them out the say thank you... AIBU?!

Not at all. Put her headphones back in and ignore.

I'd think you were rude if you DIDN'T have them in! No one should be forced to listen to noise from other peoples' devices.

If you are sure nobody else can hear, then it is fine.

I get this all the time. Often I go for a walk with headphones- it’s a bit of private time.
The number of older people who seem offended when you aren’t even interacting with them is ridiculous.

Yanbu. I've been told off for listening to music through earphones on the bus before though. Some people are just miserable

Remove your earphones, turn your music up and see how long it takes her to tut and complain about the music.
