Hi ladies

My DD will be turning 1 shortly and i want to get or make her a special gift that will mean something to her in years to come. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking more along the lines of something personal rather than something bought on the high street. Thanks in advance!

Just take a few photos. That will do. My twins are 11 and they love looking back at photos of their 1st birthday and the first time they got their hands on cake.

Every birthday will be the only one and special. Dont use your child as an excuse to be a hoarder. Lots of photos. A little first birthday album.

If you want something that you think she will treasure then it probably means you will take a few photos then put it away so she doesn't spoil it.
I have photos of my dd opening things and her trying to set herself alight with the candle on the cake.I know whatI got her but it got passed on when she outgrew it.

I second @kc225 lots of photos, I'm also just asking for money instead of gifts to put in Ds's account. Maybe a video recording, little messages from everyone on camera. I look back and wish I'd known relatives who are no longer with us, it's always interesting seeing what they were like and hearing their voices. I love videos of me from back in the day, really fascinating xx

I have one of each of these books for each of my daughters. The first is for me to record my thoughts and memories of my own childhood and the second is for recording what my daughters have said and done each year. I love looking back each year and I hope my daughters will when they get a bit older.

You said make something. How about a scrapbook album. You could include a page for each year/picture each birthday until 16 of 18. It can be a simple or elaborate as you want. You could decorate all the pages now, and leave space to add a 7x5 or 6x4 photo later, or just do the first page now. You could get lots of ideas online.

I have no pictures from DS’s 1st birthday, we had a big party but no one took pictures. I really regret that. He’s two in a few weeks and I’ll remember to take pictures this year but it won’t be the same. So i would agree with everyone else, pictures is the way to go!

Beagle840 · 02/11/2018 23:25

Thanks ladies. I'm an avid picture taker so will definitely be plenty of snaps! I love those books and the scrapbook and video ideas! I'm now thinking of doing all of those.
