Recent work acquaintance bereavement (hopefully not TW but just in case)

Hi all,

I have started a new second job in recent weeks and did a handful of shifts with a really nice lady. We didn't become close friends or anything in that very short time but she was kind, fun and patient.

I have just heard that she has resigned without notice following her sister's death. Sadly the sister took her own life in her late twenties.

I am really sorry to hear this and am wondering whether to send the ex colleague a brief message of condolences. If so should I offer to be there if she wants to talk?

I know it's probably odd to be asking but I have real confidence issues and am worrying whether she'd feel intruded upon as we didnt know each other well or that staff had been gossiping.

Thanks.

Contacting her would be lovely. The notes really do help.

I think i would just send condolences as you don't know her well. It's a kind thought though.

I would send her a card via HR and maybe include a short note about how you valued her support and working with her?
I really valued kind words like that during a recent bereavement. Its the little things that can mean a great deal Flowers

My sister committed suicide, I received many texts from colleagues and I really appreciated every one. So yes, definitely.

However as you knew her for such a short time, I would maybe not include the offer of an ear, perhaps if she comes back to you with more than a simple thank you, you could reconsider then.

Thank you all, I will definitely send her a message now.

Cosy I didn't think to thank her for her help at work but that would be a nice addition.

Alfie I am so sorry to hear about your sister and glad to hear you had plenty of support at the time Flowers
