To ask about prices for poppies

I always donate to British legion my DF 93 was a soldier in Second World War and my Grandad same in First World War
I’ve noticed this year for the first time that prices vary from seller to seller
DP wanted a medium sized plastic poppy to put on his works van grille some collectors charge £3 some £5 and another said they were £10
Are they pocketing the difference and who regulates this - it’s not like the paper ones where you just make a donation and put money in the collecting tin
Obviously I bought the £3 one along with £10 for enamel badges
The £3 seller suggested I buy direct from the website for other merchandise and to check prices
Just wondered who checks on these collectors? If anyone

I'm out selling poppies this weekend and I asked if there was a set price to charge and they said no but to suggest a slightly higher donation for the wristbands and enamel badges 😊

Poppy sellers are all volunteers. They will have been told what the "recommended donation" is for each item, but chances are they won't have it written down and can't remember what they've been told.

The collection pots have serial numbers and are recorded against the poppy seller's name. Pots can only be opened with particular equipment, so it isn't possible for them to be sneakily opened. Buckets have a unique sticker on (with the serial number) the opening, so if anyone tried to open the bucket it would be obvious.

Hope that helps Smile

I've done collecting for a number of years and whilst I can't prove it as it is always the same location each year, I do believe there is an element of geographic pricing with the suggested donations.
