AIBU?

To be annoyed that threads get taken down because the op gets upset?

I'm sure this will get taken down before too long as it's a TAAT. But, it annoys me that some really serious issues are getting discussed on here, and then the op throws their toys our of the pram, and it gets taken down. I thought this was a forum for people to share their problems/questions, and people to give their opinions. Why do some people get to remove them when they don't like the answer?

Personally I don’t blame some OPs for wanting their threads taken down.

Maybe if people weren’t twats in the first place it wouldn’t happen?

Then why post if you think everyone are twats???

YANBU it is incredibly annoying, especially when people have spent time and effort giving help and advice (which may in turn help others going through it) then all that help disappears

I've had a couple of threads on aibu where the majority have told me I was ( would like to think I'm not a twat though). It never occurred me to remove them, when you ask peoples opinion, you should be prepared for opinions that differ from your/ other points of view.

I didn’t say everybody was a twat at all Hmm

But there are some threads who get invaded by people trying to out-cunt one another. I don’t blame the OP for frantically trying to lock the gate to the twat zoo in those instances.

I’m actually furious with the amount of threads taken down. I’m sure we’re all busy, looking for some light entertainment to waste our time becoming invested in a thread only to have it deleted for the slightest reason. It’s infuriating

What threads? All I've ever seen is "We're just taking this down while we look behind the scenes" - do you mean that?

I hate it when it's taken down simply because the OP doesn't like the answer they got, but I have noticed more and more threads where it becomes a pile on and quite cruel. Can't really blame the OPs who leave the thread/ask for it to be taken down/burn their laptop in the back garden in those cases

I think it’s fine for people to express their opinions but some people don’t know how to do it in a civilised way and the point can be all lost. It’s one thing to disagree with OP or say OP is being unreasonable but you can do that without being rude. Well some people came. Others don’t seem to be able to express themselves!

Does seem a bit petty to start a thread and then flounce off when you don't like the answers though. But then some posters seem to really enjoy putting the boot in.

'Throws their toys our of the pram' is harsh. It depends entirely on why they want it taken down IMHO. It's perfectly legitimate for someone to change their mind about a post they may have made at a bad time (this is without knowing which thread is being referred to, BTW) and it's also true that OPs sometimes get an entirely unwarranted pasting on here. I've never asked for a thread to be taken down but I can easily see why someone might.

I can understand why some do it. Sometimes the op will be upset or in a delicate place and loads of people will pile on and be utter arseholes and some just plain cruel. I have seen many where I have just shakes my head in disbelief at the cruelty of people

Some people who post on here are very vulnerable. It’s right that mumsnet take threads down if they think it is distressing the op.
When I was in an emotionally very vulnerable state (think suicidal) I got very very stressed out by a thread on here.
So YABU. Let mumsnet use their discretion.
