Any MNers doing NaNoWriMo this year? Any past success stories? Anyone tempted?

Tempted! I had a good idea for a novel the other day and it's years since I had a stab at one. But arrgggghh work kids life 😬. How many words a day is it again?

Somerville · 22/10/2018 12:53

Ooh, I am! Did it last year for a non fiction thing which is now finished so I’m going to be brave and try a novel. Gulp.

Witchend · 22/10/2018 12:56

It's 50k over November, which is approximately 1666 a day.

cathyandclare · 22/10/2018 13:56

Signing in.

< stands up> My name is CathyandClare and I'm a deleter, so this month my commitment is to just get the words done and get a first draft even if I churn out any old shite.

I've done thousands and thousands of factual words a day, surely I can do this.

Writersblock2 · 22/10/2018 14:09

I’ve done it a few times (successfully), and enjoyed it. It’s a great thing to do if you want to write and build a habit.

spookyspookyspookhole · 22/10/2018 14:11

Yes I'm doing it! I have my novel planned out, just need a few tweaks. 1666 a day sounds a manageable task ...I say now

Schroedingerscatagain · 22/10/2018 14:12

Dd did it last year and did 150k words, I’ve had to rein her plans in this year as she has gcse mocks for half the month

She has ASD and sometimes get a little too focused on her word counts to the detriment of life but does enjoy NaNo

Oysterbabe · 22/10/2018 14:14

I've done it a few times and always found it really fun. 2 small children will prevent it this year I fear.

WeeBeasties · 22/10/2018 14:16

Yes I will be doing it for the first time. I've got a loose plan and have been reading some recent fiction of the same category to understand the market. I feel ready to go but actually have no idea when I'm going to write?
How are you all planning to carve out some writing time?

Annandale · 22/10/2018 20:24

Yes I might do it again. Did it last year but had to stop about 3/4 of the way through, I'd done about 30000 words. It was a lot of fun though, I really enjoyed it.

This year it would be personal/cathartic I think - don't know if I really want to do it.

I did CampNaNoWriMo in July, aiming to do 30,000 words of a novel that was already in progress. I did manage it, just, and I was thinking of trying a very rough first draft of a new novel in November. I just need to do the last little bit of the first one by the end of October. I’m literally procrastinating and not finishing the epilogue RIGHT NOW. Grin

I wrote most lunch times, and would try to crack out a few hundred words in the evening. Sometimes it would be so easy to make word count and then some, but I felt like I basically gave the month over to writing! It was fun though, and I got a quarter of my first draft done, which felt great. I then didn’t write a single thing in august. Less great.
