what do you do if you think somebody has broken the sex offenders register?

Phone the police on their non-emergency number unless something is currently happening in which case 999.

I'm not quite the law is and this was a few years ago. He had unsupervised access with his children. I think you're not supposed to be with under 16s but maybe it is different with your own children (?)

Completely depends on the nature of the crime. There isnt just one set of rules for all sex offenders. Some won't have any conditions relating to children at all. Own children may well be an exception if they aren't deemed to be at risk

on the Sex Offenders’ Register for an indefinite period and also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which restricts him having unsupervised access to children under the age of 16.
