To think I have been treated in the worst possible way?

Where should I start...
After 5 or 6 years of working and giving 150% of myself and my time working as a cleaner/ housekeeper/babysitter/ well everything... The child started going to nursery a few times a week and they hired a nanny for the remaining 2 days. They changed nurseries in march but the child would only be at nursery until 3pm so my boss asked me if I would be interested in picking him up the 3 days the child was at nursery and told me if I did I would have to commit for 2 or 3 years. I said yes... Last week found out the nanny is pregnant and it was her last week and they were looking for someone else to replace her and the child is starting nursery 4 times a week. On Monday I got there, a new nanny is there (again in the dark) yesterday picked up the child and when arriving my boss tells me that today the new nanny was meeting me at nursery and I should show what to do and then the new nanny is going to start picking him up almost everyday leaving one day if I want to do it...
When I told my boss about him asking me to commit for 2-3 years he said it wasn't true and I don't have anything in writing... I am P... O

What can I say? People can behave so bad! I’m sorry this has happened to you.

RatRolyPoly · 18/10/2018 14:43

Well I can see why you're pissed off but I'm not sure that's being treated "in the worst possible way".

YANBU to be narked, but I was expecting something very different from this thread!

Isadora2007 · 18/10/2018 14:46

Yes “worst possible way” would be a whole different scenario really for most people.
Treated badly? Yes. But maybe you just move on and work for someone who will value you and not take the piss

LovelyGirlNOT · 18/10/2018 14:46

Agree with Rat Its shitty, but it's really not the worst

I understand you'd be p'd off, so would I. But I'd think "wanker" and maybe look for another position somewhere else if I felt so under-appreciated

KikaWhite · 18/10/2018 15:14

After all the dedication and hard work I am cut of my hours just like that, called a liar and being treated like a stupid cleaner... It is something you do... In my opinion yes it is the worse

Make sure they give you proper notice and pay you properly.

KikaWhite · 18/10/2018 15:31

They just told me yesterday I have to tell the new nanny today what to do and because next week its half-term that nanny is nannying everyday and the week after the nanny is picking the child from nursery... So no notice at all

It's a bit shitty that they're now lying. Can you sack it altogether and look for something else?

NWQM · 18/10/2018 15:41

Could you ring ACAS or something? It doesn't seem right that they keep chopping and changing your hours. I'd ask for the new arrangement in writing. If in the UK aren't they legally required to give you a contract?

shearwater · 18/10/2018 17:00

www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/notice

Whatever your contract says, your employer must give you at least the statutory minimum period of notice, which depends on how long you've worked for them:

one week if you've been continuously employed for between one month and two years
one week for each complete year (up to a maximum of 12) if you've been continuously employed for two or more years.

shearwater · 18/10/2018 17:00

So it sounds like you are owed 5 or 6 weeks pay if they are sacking you without notice.

IStandWithPosie · 18/10/2018 17:08

being treated like a stupid cleaner

Hmm No, you’re being treated badly, not sure why that makes you think of a “stupid cleaner” (stupid??)

Aquamarine1029 · 18/10/2018 17:27

I would make TODAY my last day. They can train the new nanny themselves.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/10/2018 17:28

I really wouldn't be turning up tomorrow, they can get stuffed!
