My partner takes his socks off in a way that leaves them rolled inside themselves a bit, and I cba to stand there straightening his dirty socks to wash them properly- would it be frowned upon to chuck them in the washer as is?!?

I'd leave them to pile up in the laundry basket, until he gets the message.

salterello1 · 16/10/2018 11:40

Omg mine is the same! I won’t put my hand inside the sock but will hold the end and give it a shake to free up the main body of the sock - thank god don’t have the same problem with boxers! Eeugh

Chinks123 · 16/10/2018 11:40

I have done, but they came out still dirty so I wouldn’t bother. My dp puts his trousers in the wash still with the belt attached! Angry

Chinks123 · 16/10/2018 11:41

Actually that’s a lie, he chucks them on the floor next to the wash Wine

MetalMum2012 · 16/10/2018 11:42

Ugh! Men! Lol my partner only moved in about 6 months ago, I was a single mum (officially) til then, been with my guy for just over 2 years now lol

I did mention to him a few months ago about the socks, but nothing changed lol

It’s what I do. How it goes into the washing basket is how it goes into the machine. Anything that’s not left in the basket is dumped on his chair so he can’t sit etc until it’s dealt with.
10yrs in, washing is put in the basket straight away and very rarely socks get washed balled up.. still a lot of stuff going through inside out etc but it comes out clean Grin

Judygarlandspills · 16/10/2018 11:45

If you ‘cba’ don’t do it.

Angharad07 · 16/10/2018 11:46

Lol just chuck it in. My partner doesn’t even notice. He can wash his own socks if it becomes an issue.

notangelinajolie · 16/10/2018 11:48

And mine leaves his shirts buttoned up. He just pulls them over his head. He also has difficulty in putting washing IN the basket - he puts his dirty stuff on top of the lid Angry

MetalMum2012 · 16/10/2018 11:49

Thanks ladies GrinWine

@notangelinajolie I'd find it easier if he left his shirts buttoned, much easier to iron as well lol but that's just me 🙈

I do. If he can't be arsed to unball them, them neither can I. Same applies to inside out stuff/buttons not undone/etc.

I do empty pockets (finders keepers on cash) and take out cuff links/collar stays (so they don't fuck the washing machine).

I sort the kids stuff since they're little, but generally quite good at doing it themselves. But husband's? Nope.

GMtoBe · 16/10/2018 11:52

My dh does this. I wash things as they appear in the wash basket. If socks are balled up that's how they're washed and dried. If they still smell afterwards it's not my problem.

RonniePickering · 16/10/2018 11:52

Mine does it too. He said his mum always told him to do it when he was younger so the pair could go in the wash.

Wish I'd formed the habit tbh, I have a literal bag of odd socks, his always stay in pairs.

howabout · 16/10/2018 11:53

I have DC that do this. On discovery they get marched to the laundry basket to sort them out. They then have to sort and do the sock wash for the whole HH. I also don't pair socks out of the laundry.

PuppyMonkey · 16/10/2018 11:54

Tell him to do his own washing and then he can so what he likes with his own socks.

Badwifey · 16/10/2018 11:55

I actually prefer to put them in slightly balled at the ankles with the foot part free. No missing socks that way. When they come out clean I unball to hang in pairs.

papaoomama · 16/10/2018 11:57

@Chinks123 my husband leaves his belts on the trousers too!! I bloody hate it and have said to him so many times.

He says "It only takes a second to take it out"

Well if it does then why don't you do it then DH?!? He never has an answer for that funnily enough but makes me feel like a nag Angry

seventhgonickname · 16/10/2018 12:00

Why are you doing all the washing.Just leave balled up sock in the basket and tell him he can do them when he puts a wash on or unroll them.

Joey7t8 · 16/10/2018 12:04

Just bung ‘em in the wash. A balled up sock is still going to be sufficiently soaked through with warm detergent filled water and chucked about for 45-60 mins.

howabout · 16/10/2018 12:04

I also iron shirts buttoned up. Star

PerfectlyPosed · 16/10/2018 12:05

My DP does this and I just leave them in the basket until he runs out. Then he will wash them himself although he doesn't unball them either!

NorthEndGal · 16/10/2018 12:08

After this many decades, I just deal with it.
Life is too short to fight about socks.
He puts up with me leaving things not quite finished (dishes done, but the last rack was left drip drying on the counter) so it makes us even.

HemanOrSheRa · 16/10/2018 12:13

DS does this. DS also puts his clothes inside out or bunched together. I either wash and dry them like it or make him sort it before washing. DP PAIRS his fucking socks before putting them in the laundry basket. They get washed and dried like that too.
