to be able to ask people to move their car when they are parked on a double yellow line and I can't get out of the parking space???

Today I nipped to the local co-op after the school run to get some milk, and when I came out there was 3 cars all parked on the double yellow lines which meant I couldn't reverse my car out of the space, as I would have hit the black car parked behind me on the double yellow line. I tried and tried but couldn't get the swing. Anyway DH tried afterwards and couldn't get out either, so he asked the old man if he could move his car (btw the drivers were sitting in the cars, and watching us struggle) and the old man said 'what! can't you drive or something!!!' Dh said 'yes I can, but I will hit your car if I try to get out with you there!!'
So AIBU??

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 20:20

No are not BU - as a magistrate, I can tell you that you are within the law to call the police becauase you are blocked in by a vehicle violating a traffic regulation. - It may be extreme, but it is true, and it works.

MaureenMLove · 14/06/2007 20:26

They really are a law unto themselves aren't they? My pet hate is the people who insist on parking over the only drop curb in our village. I quite often stand in front of the car shouting for the owner, because I can't get across the road with my double buggy!

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 20:31

what made me mad was that there was parking bays further up but then their passengers would have had to walk further to the shop!!

It's tempting to drive a really old banger and just twat the other cars out of the way if they don't move then.

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 20:38

DH said if it had been his car he would have done that.. but my car is a 06 zafira and a mobility car..

No, you're not being unreasonable. It is ILLEGAL to park on double yellow lines, EVEN IF you have a disabled badge which I bet he did.

GrooveisintheHeart · 14/06/2007 20:53

actually fossil, its only illegal in this area to park on double yellows with a disabled badge IF there are loading restrictions in place.

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 20:55

But is still illegal yes?? I would have just hit his car, if it wasn't for the fact that my car is a mobility one
