I have a lodger who is 15 years younger than me and we work together occasionally. Really nice guy, we get on, have a laugh etc. He's out of work at the moment and has been helping out around the house to keep busy (I appreciate it, he doesn't have to). Anyway I came home to find that he'd done the clothes washing and dried it and folded it up....including my well worn period knickers which were on top of the pile folded up with dried in blood stains (could look like skiddys!!) to the male untrained eye. AIBU to hide in my bedroom until he goes out and change the locks? I think I've died a little inside! Please tell me this is survivable!?

@AlphaBravo I normally do but i leaked into these comfy ones unexpectedly and had to sacrifice then to the period gods 😜

I think if he was offended he'd have dumped the nix back in the laundry untouched. Don't mention it - he certainly won't!

This might make you feel better (I’ve never told a soul this before). Back in my twenties my then bf and I were going to his company’s Christmas do which was a formal do - so long dresses, black tie etc. Some colleagues of my bf (who were a couple) invited us to get ready and stay over theirs as they lived closer to the venue. We accepted.

On the night getting ready to get in the shower I undressed and chucked my daytime clothes on the bathroom floor. Picked them all up as I left the bathroom and headed to the bedroom to put in my fancy attire.

Few minutes later there was a knock on the bedroom door I opened it to find my bf’s (male) colleague standing there holding out my period stained pants in his hand staying “are these yours?”. I must have dropped them from my bundle when I left the bathroom. Mortified isn’t the word - I died inside without a doubt.

I did have nice sexy nickers for the fancy do though but obv male colleague never got to see those. He must have thought me a right skank. It was 25 yrs ago and I still cringe when I think about it.

I had been to the loo and then had a shower. Totally forgot the panty liner in my underwear. Grabbed it all. Threw it in the wash.

Half an hour later. The pantry liner decides to stick to the front of the washing machine.

I have no words. There are no words to console me. Actually mortified would be the word.

I once leaked through a pair of light grey trousers. I was at a hobby group and nobody said a word. Obviously too embarrassed. I didn’t realise until I went home. Still haunts me.

I've had that exact scenario at posh ex's flat. The panty liner kept popping up in port hole window as if to say hello. I stood in front of washer for as long as I could.

I don't think it helps that he is one of those young good looking lads who has young gorgeous girlfriends who clearly never wear stained unglamourous knickers

When I was in a uni share house we had a kitten. I had a wrapped used pad that I’d put in the bin inside my room but hadn’t yet taken it outside. The kitten retrieved it and took it into a male flat mate’s room to play with.

Not period related but I once walked into the male changing rooms after a swim - I saw a line of naked bums in the open shower area then I realised (didn't hang around for tooo long, I promise!). I then had to walk the entire length of the pool to get to the female changing rooms and everyone in the pool had obviously realised what I'd done. Mortified....

I remember a post on here years ago about a dinner party a lady had when her toddler turned up with her USED knickers, gusset showing, on his head running around the room - every time I am embarrassed about something I do (often) that is my go to to make me feel better

Back in the day when i wore thongs i had several embarrassing occasions when my dog would appear in the living room with a used thong in his mouth.

I also remember seeing a massive spider on the wall of my bedroom. DH was out so in desperation I went to our neighbour next door, who I don't know very well but I was in a panic. He came to retrieve the spider, went ahead of me in the bedroom and one of my thongs was on the floor right where he was walking. He stepped over it.....

I also remember leaving a pair of knickers under my drivers seat of my very dirty Nova Club after some action with BF night before.

I awoke to hear mum and dad doing a mini valet car washing and hoovering out my car.

My Dad is a small, skinny man and I often nicked his t-shirts and jackets when I was younger. I had a man's leather jacket I used to go round in and then one day decided I fancied something that was cut to show a waist and accommodate boobs so I gave him my jacket. Completely forgot about the receipt I had in the pocket for some sexy undies bought at an Ann Summers party . My mother DID mention it, she thought his reaction was hilarious. But its OK, me and the BF are married now!

I'd have to face it head on and mention it in a jokey way. Just so he knows they are not skiddys 

Treat it as a perfectly commonplace thing and you will be doing a favour to any future wife, daughter, stepdaughter, niece for whom he cares. Menstruation is a perfectly normal function and we need not deep and cringe about it like guilty mice.

It’s totally fine! No big deal at all. If he’s old enough to have girlfriends and have sex he’s old enough to know about periods and that sometimes they leak and stain. And that the chance of a stain being blood rather than actual shit in women’s underwear is extremely high.

Menstruation is a normal thing, honestly chill out about it.

@sparklyfee I feel like I might have to. I'm in my bedroom and can hear him roaming around. Can I build up the courage? Would I rather him think I shit my pants or discuss the knickers....Can't decide which is more mortifying?

I'd say "thanks for doing the washing, realised my time of the month knickers were in there though so soz! Every woman has them though. Still, better than men's with all their skiddys in". Give him a little  and then he'll be too worried you might've seen his crappy undies lying around to even think about your periods knickers
