Phone to the bathroom

yellowsparkles · 14/10/2018 22:51

AIBU to think my BF of almost 2 years might be hiding something if he takes his phone to the bathroom?

He's on it lots, mostly WhatsApp boys groups I know about (he's very friendly with my family) so it's usually boys banter etc

He ALWAYS takes his phone to the bathroom. Sometimes I would say he's in a "bathroom" amount of time...others completely longer.

Do I have a right to be suspicious?! Should I check his phone? I know the password but never felt the need...

Am I being a complete weirdo?!

No holds barred opinions please.

I always take my phone the loo. It's my 'reading time' and have been known to stay so long my legs go numb 🙈😂

yellowsparkles · 14/10/2018 22:54

@AlphaBravo lol fair opinion,

I never take my phone to the loo. Never have never will. Maybe I'm just being paranoid cause it's something I would never do

Yep me too - numb legs! My DH takes his phone to the loo too but usually found buying things for the kids and sending me pictures of his poo.

Purplestorm83 · 14/10/2018 22:56

I always take my phone to the loo - mainly so I can read mumsnet without my 3 year old asking me what I’m doing!

Greggers2017 · 14/10/2018 22:56

I do it and so did dp. Quite normal

AlphaBravo · 14/10/2018 22:56

@mandapanda85 it's called 'alpha-leg' now in our house as it only happens to me.

Myusername101z · 14/10/2018 22:56

Taking it to the loo is fine I think but watch out for what he does for it whilst he showers etc if he’s taking it into the bathroom whilst he showers I would be inclined to think he was hiding the phone from you

Myusername101z · 14/10/2018 22:57

With it not for it *

UrsulaPandress · 14/10/2018 22:58

It used to be a thing to take the paper to the loo.

Maybe it's just that.

I always worry about the germs.

Celebelly · 14/10/2018 22:58

I always take mine if I'm going for a number two! And sometimes for a number 1 if I'm in the middle of something (I've been known to sit so long on the loo after a pee that my body has created more pee and I can squeeze some more out before I leave again).

wobytide · 14/10/2018 22:59

LTB

yellowsparkles · 14/10/2018 22:59

@Myusername101z he does take it to the shower but after a while I hear audiobooks when he's actually in the shower. Before that there a good 10/15 minutes of silence.

I've been cheated on before this is my first real relationship since that and just worried I'm being over paranoid or there may be something

Is this a new thing? I wouldn't think this is concerning necessarily, unless there are other signs. Does he leave it lying around at all in between use?

MrsTommyBanks · 14/10/2018 23:05

I always take my phone to the loo. Its Mumsnet time.

It may well just be your bf uses his phone in the bathroom the same way he uses it outside of the bathroom. It's not a phone, but a kindle for me.

At the beginning of the Easter holiday I took the kindle with me and was doing jigsaws, resting my left elbow on my left leg. Subsequently my leg went to sleep, the house phone rang and I called to the boys to answer it.

I thought the boys hadn't heard so I got sorted and came out of the loo. By that time I had pins and needles and my foot was 'strange'. Got into the passageway and put my foot down, not realising I couldn't feel it properly and it turned out I tried standing on it with my foot hanging down, resulting in me putting the top of my foot flat on the floor. Had to have x-rays as GP thought it might me broken. It was damage to a ligament and is still sore some days about 7 months later!

It can be dangerous taking electronics into the bathroom, but doesn't necessarily mean an affair etc. I injured myself because of electronics in the bathroom, but was definitely not in 'cahoots' with other men. If you are a bit suspicious the kind of thing to look out for would be your bf hiding the screen when you walk in on him (in any room), or putting the phone down with the screen out of view etc. or being secretive, rather than him being on it in the bathrookom.

Lavalamped · 15/10/2018 00:27

I'm on the toilet right now [blush. Given that I do it I wouldn't say it's concerning, unless there's any other signs

ilovegin112 · 15/10/2018 00:41

I’m stuck with the image of all these posters sitting on the loo mumsnetting

SneakyGremlins · 15/10/2018 00:42

I'm MNing from inside the shower right now.

callymarch · 15/10/2018 01:01

I'm on the loo too

Zfactorstar · 15/10/2018 01:20

The issue isn't that he is taking his phone to the bathroom, I think the responses are showing that it's a very common occurrence. The issue is your insecurities and paranoia affecting your current relationship. If he can't do a simple, very common activity without you automatically assuming he's cheating then this relationship isn't going to last. You might want to look into getting some help.

BoomBoomsCousin · 15/10/2018 01:45

I think people taking their phone to the loo with them and then staying too long while they set the world to rights on social media or watch videos of people doing stupid things is very common and not, by itself, a reason to think someone is cheating. But if it's new behaviour, especially if coupled with other things, it might give me pause for thought.

Dvg · 15/10/2018 02:01

i do and sit for so long my butt goes numb, but i would still check just in case

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/10/2018 03:44

DP takes his to the loo and is usually in there for 30 mins watching YouTube videos.

I take mine and read my fan fiction or mumsnet.

However for baths/showers we don't take them. And I know his phone pin and mine doesn't have one. So no worries here.

RefuseTheLies · 15/10/2018 04:00

My phone goes everywhere with me. I leave it by the bathroom window when I have a shower. I’m too tired to be having an affair though.
