I’m having a shitty time of it, broke my arm, been prescribed antidepressants to cope with my anxiety issues... and now even my fanny has turned against me apparently.

I’ve so far taken a canesten oral capsule and bought canesten cream which I use regularly, felt a bit better today so threw caution to the wind and had some much needed sex with DP. Big mistake, my sex was indeed on fire afterwards.

So, any solutions ladies? Got a feeling the doc will just give me more of the canesten and the price of prescriptions now I may as well buy over the counter 😭

Canesten pessary and natural yoghurt. Air your bits as much as possible. Try not to itch.

kitkatsky · 14/10/2018 18:44

Your DP needs to be treated with the vanesten too. Men often don't have symptoms but you'll be passing it back between yourselves. Ask the chemist for clotrimazole cream- it's unbranded canesten so much cheaper but the same thing

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 14/10/2018 18:46

I hear yoghurt is good but I've found the prescriptions my GP has given when I've needed them to work well. Have you looked into a prescription pre-payment certificate? I'm pretty broken so have a lot of prescriptions and it saves me so much money! You can pay by a monthly direct debit so it's not a huge initial outlay.

FrightsaidRed · 14/10/2018 18:46

Natural yoghurt straight from the fridge on a sanitary towel...brings intense relief to the massive discomfort and supposedly sorts things out because of the live cultures in the yoghurt. It’s definitely worked for me.

Dickybow321 · 14/10/2018 18:47

The capsule will take a couple of days to kick in. Hopefully you should feel better tomorrow Flowers

OuchLegoHurts · 14/10/2018 18:49

I only had it once as a student. I tried the natural live bacterial yoghurt on a tampon method and it worked straightaway. So soothing too.

OuchLegoHurts · 14/10/2018 18:50

Make sure you get real live culture yoghurt though.

FrightsaidRed · 14/10/2018 18:51

Oh yes I did a tampon too and it worked. Such a flipping relief. Send your DH out to get some, you’ll feel much better!

Athena51 · 14/10/2018 18:51

Definitely make sure DP gets treated too or you'll just keep getting it. I haven't had it for many years thank God but I remember how miserable it is having an itchy fanny Sad

lexi727 · 14/10/2018 18:52

Natural yogurt

Duchessgummybuns · 14/10/2018 18:52

Thanks all, will def try the yoghurt and make DP use the cream. Hopefully the capsule is working but slowly

Not sure if this is medically advisable at all but, I found the very best thing is to use the applicator tube of a tampon (unused obvs!) And suck some natural yoghurt up it until its full. Then put end just inside your vagina and the squeeze the tube (like a frube) into your vagina. Worked every time and rebalanced things very well for me. I'm sure if that's a daft thing to do someone will be along to tell me soon!

happytoseeyou · 14/10/2018 18:57

A few drops of tea tree oil in a bath works wonders.

HattieBugatti · 14/10/2018 18:59

When I was struggling with it (summer 2016,) under my boobs, under my armpits, on my inner thighs, (oddly not my fanjo though) I got terbinafine from the docs. Cleared it up within about a week. I took it for 4 weeks, and it went.

Fast forward to June-ish 2017, and it started to come back - I think the heat and me starting my menopause was causing it - so I got terbinafine again, took it for the 12 weeks or so of the rest of summer (one a day,) and it stayed away.

Same this summer ... Took one a day from mid May to late August. Thrush free. Bliss. Smile

Good luck.

This is the exact one I have. Up there!

I mean the thrush went within a week.... But I took the tabs for 4 weeks anyway.

I took the whole pack of tablets - 30 - to make sure the thrush was properly gone! Smile

PurpleOctober · 14/10/2018 19:06

The yoghurt suggestions may soothe the symptoms, but you need to eradicate the cause. It's the same with the Canesten cream - it helps soothe, rather than treat the problem.

Personally, I've found the only thing that gets rid of it are capsules (the internal cream and pessary are also useless). The canesten one is fine, but pricey, and you can buy capsules just as effective for a fraction of the price and it will work fine as long as it contains flucanazole. You can ask pharmacies for this over the counter - I buy flucanazole tablets in bulk so I always have some in the cupboard when the need arises. Chemisty Direct sells them for £3 each and it clears thrush within a day for me.

Duchessgummybuns · 14/10/2018 19:15

Ah grand I’ll order a few flucanozole tabs to stock up. I know it’s only thrush but it’s making me feel proper shit about myself 😢🎻

To add to what others have said, bear in mind that the fungal spores will lurk in your knickers, jeans etc. and could reinfect you. To kill all the spores, wash your underwear at 60C and dry on outside line. Another option is to soak them in a solution of something acidic or alkaline, such as bicarb because the spores won't survive this either.

Dacresmallwilly · 14/10/2018 19:29

You can buy the capsules for £1.50 each off t'internet

fiorentina · 14/10/2018 19:33

I used tea tree baths. It stings but did help, I also took probiotics to rebalance.

mrsstewpot · 14/10/2018 19:35

A shallow bath with a cup of vinegar added to the warm water. The yeast cannot survive the acidic ph levels.

gigi556 · 14/10/2018 19:35

Fresh clove of garlic up your fanny. I'm not joking. I have done this. It does work.

I've also used diluted tea tree, but I can't remember how I inserted/applied and you have to be careful with the dilution level because you can burn yourself.

WonderTweek · 14/10/2018 19:38

The pessaries tend to work for me and they provide an immediate relief. Ahh! I take the tablet if it’s particularly aggressive and it seems to work quite quickly as well. I also take probiotics on a regular basis and have noticed that I hardly ever get thrush anymore. 😃

If I’m not entirely sure if I’m getting thrush or not, I make sure we use a condom because otherwise we’d be forever passing it back and forth. 😂My husband’s GP once said that you can actually use the canesten cream as lube if you’re both suffering. 🤔

LeticiaDejeuner · 14/10/2018 19:39

All of the above (and definitely treating your DP too - think he can just take a capsule if he doesn't have symptoms, someone correct me if I'm wrong though. And hot washing/ replacing all your knickers, very good idea).

ALSO, avoiding coffee & alcohol, sugary drinks and sweet foods in general definitely helps a lot... although totally understand if this is a just a bridge too far right now!!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 14/10/2018 19:49

It’s miserable isn’t it :(

You’re not going to want to hear this, but the BEST thing you can do is remove the sugar from your diet. It feeds off of it. All the obvious sugar, but also the carbs too. Bread, potatoes etc. It works really well and keeps it away.

For the symptoms, I found using femfresh sport wash helped and water wipes (baby wipes, but pure water, Waitrose sell them). TMI ...placing one between your labia/bits/flaps really helps and then they can be disposed of. Cotton underware, line dried in the sunlight if possible.

...but it’s worth a sugar free diet to keep the bastard thing away.
