To think my son’s music teacher has this wrong?

Ds is in year 8 and for this weeks music homework (to be completed tonight apparently!), he has been asked to write about Bob Marley’s ‘Don’t worry, be happy’. Now, I do love a bit of Bob Marley but am no expert when it comes to reggae but I’m pretty certain ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ is by Bobby McFerrin (I’m a child of the 80’s and remember that song well). Surely, she must mean Bob Marley’s ‘Everything’s gonna be alright’? I’m confused (doesn’t take much these days, mind!)

No, that wasn't Bob Marley?!

Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 18:00

Thought not.

YANBU. She’s got them mixed up. No way of knowing which song she’s actually thinking of though:

Either she’s thinking of Don’t Worry be Happy, but thinks it’s by Bob Marley,

Or she’s thinking of Everything’s gonna be alright...

iklboo · 14/10/2018 18:02

Yeah I reckon she's thinking of Three Little Birds (Everything's Going To Be Alright).

Seniorcitizen1 · 14/10/2018 18:03

Not Bob Marley - so no music homework to do.

Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 18:03

Not sure if it’s best not to do the homework or do the assignment on both pieces (ds will love that!!)

Ohyesiam · 14/10/2018 18:04

She’s wrong, but Everything’s Gomna be Alright is a good suggestion by pp, and more meaty to write about.

FashionFoodLaughs · 14/10/2018 18:04

She has 'Three Little Birds' by Bob Marley confused with the named song. If memory serves Bobby McFerin recorded each individual track using his voice alone which is quite cool and may perhaps be what the homework is getting at? Secondary Music teacher here, not sure if this would be too advanced for a 9yo.

scunner · 14/10/2018 18:06

Bob Marley also recorded Don’t Worry Be Happy.
Both artists versions are available to hear on You Tube.

Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 18:08

scunner it’s a YouTube link that she has suggested but the comments on it all say Bob Marley never recorded ‘Don’t worry, be happy’, which is what I’m confused about.

Well, Bob Marley died seven years before the song was written soooo......

Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 18:24

HSM that is the link ds has been given by teacher but it doesn’t sound like Bob Marley it sounds like Bobby McFerrin and all the comments say the same, this is where I’m confused!

OP posts:
Bracknellite · 14/10/2018 18:32

That link is not Bob Marley singing.
As you said, OP, it’s Bobby Macferrin and the picture of BM doesn’t change that.

By the by, there was a YouTube clip of Inner Circles ‘Bad Boys’ (as in- bad boys, bad boys, what ya gonna do, what ya gonna do when they come for you) credited to Bob Marley a few years ago.

busybarbara · 14/10/2018 18:50

For future reference there's a thing called a search engine which you can look up information about songs on which usually result in their Wikipedia pages with more details. I use the one called "Google."

Quick homework paragraph about who actually did the song and homework done

scunner · 14/10/2018 18:59

I’m so sorry Afternooninthepark. I am clearly mistaken. I always presumed it was also a Bob Marley version on You Tube.
I suggest writing the teacher a short note explaining the confusion,to avoid your son getting into bother for not doing hw.

Anyone can edit a Wikipedia page. I wouldn't trust Bob Marley's Wikipedia page to list all the tracks he's ever written or covered. I'd certainly be making more enquiries before I sent my child in to tell his qualified music teacher that he hadn't done her homework because Wikipedia said she was wrong!

Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 19:38

user where in my posts have I ever mentioned Wikipedia? I’m going by the fact I’m 45, am a music lover (listen to all genres all day, every day) and have never p heard Bob Marley sing this song! But maybe I’m wrong!

OP posts:
Afternooninthepark · 14/10/2018 19:39

scunner I’ve just penned a quick note asking teacher to clarify.

OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/10/2018 19:47

Bob Marley died seven years before the song was written

That’s the sort of interesting fact that’s worth including in the homework. Grin
