To wonder what this jug is used for?

Posting here for traffic.

I recently came across this beautiful ceramic jug. I absolutely love it, it's in perfect condition.

But what is the inner funnel for? It is completely solid so not for infusions.

The only thing I can think of is custard and chocolate sauce at the same time. 🐷

AIBU to wonder if it has a special use?

Is it for boiling water in middle to keep outer sauce warm?!

DastardlyDoris · 14/10/2018 12:28

Could it be to put a heat source (no idea like what) in the middle that keeps the sauce or whatever warm? Or ice in the middle to keep the surrounding liquid in the outside bit cool? Like milk or something?

This is a total guess btw.

DeltaZulu89 · 14/10/2018 12:28

Oil and vinegar? Jäger bombs?

Nikkynakkynoo · 14/10/2018 12:29

Could it be for keeping something cool? (or hot?) E.g. ice in the middle section and juice in the outer section

OublietteBravo · 14/10/2018 12:29

Surely it’s for keeping the surrounding liquid hot or cold. So you’d put hot water or ice in the middle section.

TheMonkeyMummy · 14/10/2018 12:38

I initially thought along the lines of the above suggestion but when you pour, the liquid from the middle comes out.

Jaeger bombs sound like a great idea though!

if you put hot water in when you poured the sauce wouldnt the water come out too?

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2018 12:40

Tea light in the middle to keep the custard or gravy warm.

Blow out tealight/remove before pouring?

SendintheArdwolves · 14/10/2018 12:41

A quick google and it looks like that is a milk jug - the container inside is for ice and it's missing a cork:

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 14/10/2018 12:41

Maybe the middle section originally had a lid?

senua · 14/10/2018 12:43

It's beautiful, such a satisfying shape.

Is the middle a flower vase and the outer is just decorative.

Are there any markings on the jug?

SleepingStandingUp · 14/10/2018 12:44

Def jaeger bombs

BlackFingers · 14/10/2018 12:45

Wine cooling jug, think the middle bit should have a stopper.

JollyAndBright · 14/10/2018 12:46

I have one of these type of jugs.

The middle section is for ice/hot water but it should have a stopper/lid to it.
It keeps anything in the outer part cold or hot, it’s fab and really useful.

Oopsusernamealreadytaken · 14/10/2018 12:50

Penis AND ball beaker Hmm

KurriKurri · 14/10/2018 12:51

I was thinking maybe for mulled wine - you put something in the middle section to keep it hot (but as others have said it would need a stopper.
it lovely though.

kaytee87 · 14/10/2018 12:52

Penis beaker?

kaytee87 · 14/10/2018 12:52

Aw man, someone beat me to it.

iliketomoveitmoveitMOVEIT · 14/10/2018 12:57

I would assume the middle bit was meant to have a lid that has gone missing?

You might be able to fashion a substitute?

TheMonkeyMummy · 14/10/2018 15:38

I think yes, it must be missing a lid. Makes sense as I live very close to France? Thanks ladies! Shall try to fashion a lid of some sort
