Why are some staff so rude?

We have a cafeteria at my work place with hot food. It opens at 12:30 as that’s when it is convenient for lots of people to go.

At 12:40, the doors were still not open and so a colleague opened the unlocked door to see what was going on. A server came marching towards shouting that we don’t go in until he has opened that door. Then 30 seconds later he slams the door open in a real strop. We are fully grown adult professionals.

Another day, I was looking at the food, the food label was completely illegible. I asked the server, politely, what it was. To get a snarky and sharp reply of “You can read the sign right there!”

Am I the only one that finds this?

Complain. Is the catering dept owned by the company you work for or do they tender it out?

Write to whoever is in charge and tell them.

The worst one I had was when I had DS. He was born at 34 weeks so we had to stay in hospital for a while after. I went down to the Costa (located in the hospital near SCBU) on Christmas Eve to get some coffees and the person serving me was kicking off that she couldn't leave early. It was Christmas eve and she didn't want to be stuck in this miserable shit hole. She kept ranting that it was unfair and I could get coffee from the day room for free. I pointed out that at least she could go home and know she'll wake up tomorrow and celebrate Christmas, I could easily wake up and find my baby had died, so she can count her fucking blessings.

Gosh what a ghastly woman. Not nice having to work Christmas Eve, but in that setting, no sympathies.
